The Hitachi UT42MX70 is the thinnest 42" screen we've ever sold! Okay, at just 35mm it's so thin that Hitachi couldn't even fit a TV tuner in but, provided you have a SkyHD, VirginHD, freesat box or DVD recorder with HDMI this is no problem at all. Furthermore, if the screen is being used as part of a home cinema system then a monitor represents excellent value as you're not paying for a part of the TV you don't need.

Coming complete with an HDMi input it's easy to connect the UT42MX70 straight up to an AV receiver or media source of your choice. Boasting Hitachi's IPS Alpha panel with PICTURE MASTER FHD Engine, the UT42MX70 offers full 1080p resolution and 100Hz technology. With this technology you'll enjoy 1080p HD quality images from the IPS screen that are every bit as good as normal, "full fat" 1080p LCD screens. In addition to the HDMI there's also a VGA socket that is perfect for a PC or, with an adaptor, any analogue source you care to add.

In addition to being a third of the thickness of a conventional LCD TV, the Hitachi UT42MX70 is lighter. In fact, this screen is so much lighter than other 42" TVs that it can make the most of a wider range of wall brackets, including swivel-type brackets with a lower weight bearing. To keep the appearance neat and tidy, Hitachi has designed special cable channels. The beautiful finish has also been designed to look sleek from any angle - perfect if the TV is stand mounted in the centre of a room.

For a fuller picture from a thinner screen, the Hitachi UT42MX70 is without competition.

Top TV for the cash but do be mindful of it's lack of conectivity.
Not a problem if you're routing everything through a new HDMI equiped amp all of the time but a pain if you're not.

ONE HDMI PORT AND ONE PC INPUT...
NO TUNER.....
NO OTHER CONNECTIONS.......
THIS IS A MONITOR!!

Wall Bracket is £80-£90. You cant really use other brackets as the bracket for this "tv" screws into the back of the thin case.

RicherSounds were very unhelpful when i went to view this "tv" in one of their stores. They had a pixar animation blu ray disc playing through it, and wouldnt put on anything else.

Been this price for ages now, Crampton & Moore also have it with a HD Freeview Box bundled with it for the same price.

Now even better value at £499

What a solution with pioneer box less than £650 for a 100hz tv with pro processing.
Compare this solution with Philipps Essence which £1500-£2000

Hitachi wall brackets £40 quid on Amazon.(Essence does come with a wall bracket if comparing)

Ooooh when did the price drop?! Ive been looking at this for ages, i keep getting talked out of it though, due to it being a "monitor"!

Can you post a link to the bracket on amazon please?? Ive had a browse but i can't find it.
I think the bracket from Richersounds costs £89.

If they give me the warranty for free, they can have £499 of my hard-earned for this screen! :)

The 32" is excellent as well, picked mine up today, under £300 with 5 year warranty, some places are still charging over £900 for the same. The 42" should be even better.

Im watching Star Wars in HD on the 42" as im typing this, and i have to say, its awsome.
Im using the PS3 as a media player until i get a HD AV unit. I might get that Play TV for the PS3.
TV comes with a HDMI cable, £549 with Richers 5 Year Warranty.
This is me now- :)

Advice needed. If I was to buy this and also buy an AV receiver which has several HDMI inputs then effectively I would be adding to the number of HDMI inputs on the tv?????
Also is it possible to buy an AV receiver which has a scart input? That way a normal Sky + box would be able to be connected to the tv.
I think Hitachi do an adapter which allows you to connect a scart and then converts to HDMI output (not quality just a pass through) but this is about £80-£90 so seems a bit expensive which is why I thought the AV receiver might be more worthwhile as am planning to buy one of these anyway.
Forgive me if I've completely misunderstood what the AV receiver does here! :)
