If I remember correctly...there is no TV tuner with this screen...so only ok if you use cable or sky as a TV source

Looks like its been this price for a little while - http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/news.phtml/23964/Hitachi-UT42MX70-LCD-TV-pound49999.phtml - but still looks like a cracking deal!

Also only has one HDMI!

contrast ratio 1300 ?? thats very low surely

Fantastic TV! I own it. Superb image quality. The only downside is only one HDMI and one analogue PC input, but then thats the price you pay for a TV 3.5cm thick.

Btw the contrast ratio is fine, 1300 is the actual contrast ratio, not the Dynamic inflated ratio which means nothing, unless you enjoy watching TV as tho a toddler is playing with the brightness control.

A bit short of inputs but at this price it's a trade off between that and the great aesthetics. Hot.

Designed to be used with something like this http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductID=839673&source=froogle

OR

a multimedia box.

Cold and expired, virtually none of these left apart from a few open box display ones. Massively overhyped screens, poor image quality and lack of inputs.

Better 42" plasmas available for same money with miles better picture quality and no lack of a tuner / inputs or some slightly more expensive LCDs which are much better.

couldn't have said it better myself. There are much better TV's available and this is only a screen 1 HDMI and no TV tuner. RRP is overhyped even if it is very thin but then any monitor is that has no tuner.

I'm interested in purchasing a 42" LCD in the next few days and i was planning on buying this one for a while now, can anyone recommend a Full HD, LCD TV for about 500 pounds that's better than this?

Not £500 as such, but maybe have a look at http://hotukdeals.com/item/426224/lg-42lh3000-633-98-delivered-126-cr

I wouldnt use the credit so a bit too steep for me and also the rf rate of the Hitachi is 100hz compared to the 50hz of the LG

Ive got this screen and its great. My bro in law has got one of them 46" panny freesat plasmas and my hitachi blows it away, and hes gutted. And im not. :)
