I've never heated an empty home, that would be a pretty daft thing to do.
Tell me why I'd want to buy this, I mean apart from it giving me the expensive extra ability to heat an empty home.

Cold from me. Toolstation has the Hive 1 on offer for £60. http://www.toolstation.com/shop/p87054?table=no
Other than a less fancy stat, it does the same.

No, the Screwfix one is for second zone. Only works if your plumbing is already designed for 2 zones. It's not going to magically change your plumbing for you.

"Only" 2 left for delivery from the website (you'll have to check local stocks afterwards).

I haven't voted either way, because I like a little pizazz

anyone tried to mention screwfix!? Puts your comment under review lol

Edit: Oh, "screwfix" is not the trigger word doh!

Screwfix is a place I sometimes buy screws, or even a single screw from

OK, I thought I needed a screw removed from my comment.. Looks like it's not that either

How easy to install will this work with a water tank boiler system and potterton

If you are a confident DIY'er then it is not difficult to do yourself. The key bit is when you need to link out the old thermostat switch wires, and I would recommend an electrician for that, but is a really straightforward job.
The Hive receiver / controller actually fit straight onto the old terminal plate of the old Drayton programmer controller it was replacing, so no wires had to be undone there at all. Finally just linked out the live pair using a small link of cable to the stat in the boiler connection box (in my airing cupboard). Switch on, set up and you are away.
Worth noting that not all heating systems are the same.

I was the same untill I bought one.My gas bill since using has dropped by about £16 a month due to being about to have better control over my heating and my lights. So far no issues and would definitely buy another one in the future.I get a report of the saving I've made and comparisons of local hives and houses. In all I can see the benefit.

To be honest, I prefer the old thermostat, as it constantly displays the temperature, without having to press buttons, so you can just glance when you walk past. It also doesn't show fingerprints like the new one. It's a shame the time isn't displayed bigger though. So not worth the extra £67 for the new one IMHO.

Go up to £140.13 now. They've got some amazon warehouse stock for £104.10, say used very good. May be an issue though if the hubs already been registered.

From looking at it - that thermostat is fixed to the wall? I thought the point of these was can move them to whatever room you want? I'm sure the v1 allows you to do that?

You can, a stand is available for this version. Don't think there is a stand for the v1 version though.

If you've never heated an empty home then I guess you always come back to a cold house in winter for example. This would certainly save on fuel. Either that or you never leave the house for long. Some people prefer to come back to a home which is warm.
As we don't know your personal circumstances then it would hard to "tell you why you'd want to buy it"
