Some new titles have been added this morning at HMV. I managed to grab some more titles I didn't think were released over here, much less than importing.
They've only just shown up this morning so order them quick, thanks to eagle eyed bob for the heads up!

More reductions and new titles added including:

Stardust £2.99
Shooter £2.99 *
Disturbia £2.99 *
Babel £2.99 *
A Mighty Heart £2.99 *
Blades of Glory £2.99
Shrek the Third £2.99 *
Heartbreak Kid £2.99 *
Nacho Libre £2.99
Transformers £3.99
Top Gun £3.99 *
Mission Impossible 3 £3.99
and more...

Don't forget QUIDCO (7%) and any student discount ;)

Click on go to deal, and go to the final page, there should be around 95 discs showing. Hopefully there should be more to come in the next few days.

If you want to go via quidco, use your quidco link, then paste this into the address bar: http://hmv.com/hmvweb/specialOffers.do?ctx=97;10;-1;-1&code=08WYQ
[I tried navigating to the offers but they wouldn't show up, and not all show up in the searches]

Exactly what I was thinking. A bit gutted about the code, but you can't complain. Ordered 7 for £21 after student discount :)

Got some of these new titles. Well spotted. Hopefully more to come in the next few days.

Nice. I know they're going to reduce the £3.99 ones to £2.99 after I've bought them, but equally... they could sell out of popular titles like Transformers.

Nice find. Ordered Transformers and Disturbia.

does anyone have a student card code they can share with me? Ive got my own NUS card but I believe you have to use HMV's specific card?
#9
Awesome find!

Just ordered 4 myself.

As mentioned above, let's hope more are added over the next few days.

you have to go into store and pick up a free student card after showing them your valid NUS card.
codes can't be shared - they will only work on one account.

just went and ordered 10 hd-dvds. had a spare £5 off voucher for HMV with a spend over thirty and add quidco and I'm well happy. cheaper than a dvd offer. oh and the heartbreak kid is down to £2.99 as well been at either £7.99 or £17.99 for ages

Will these titles work OK on a standard DVD player (ie: are they backwards compatible?)

I've been after Disturbia on DVD for a while, and the cheapest elsewhere is £5.

I don't have a HD DVD player or Blu-Ray, but just wondered whether I could get this instead of the standard DVD edition, and that it would work properly?

PS: I know that HD-DVD players play standard DVD's, but I wasn't sure if there was a standard DVD track/side on HD-DVD discs for use in a bog-standard DVD player...

no they only work on a hd-dvd player you'll have to get the standard dvd. sorry

only some titles made it onto hybrid dvd on side and hd-dvd on other. If it had of been one of those then you could have had a bargain
#19
Thanks - it's just a shame that the HD titles (that are no use to me) are cheaper than the standard DVD editions.

it's because hd dvd is a "dead" format - but to us hd-dvd drive owners it's a steal

Fantastic deal ... ordered another 8 titles lol. Thanks very much to the OP.

And for those who aren't HD-DVD drive owners but can lay their hands on one (the X360 expansion is still cheap if you can find it) it's worth buying a player just to take advantage of the cheap titles available. My HD movie collection went from a couple of BluRay discs to a shelf full of HD movies overnight. :D

bad luck to all those who missed out on the 99p hd-dvds, i say sat in my smug chair. I remember most high street shops were selling them at £25 each when they first came out, thank goodness i only bought last samurai at that price.
#24
Cheers muddyfox, been after Shooter for a while now :)
#25
Watch Leon instead - it's amazing
#26

#29

#30
Well spotted thx ordered a few:)
#31
I have also been waiting for Transformers to drop, glad I waited just that little bit longer for a bargain bin price!
#32
WHY ?

Why did you have to publish more good deals ?

cant really afford them, but i think i will still buy them.

Thanks !!
#33

I am seriously tempted by the HD deals that keep popping up....but I don't have an HD-DVD player

Can anyone point me in the direction of a cheap player, or is the Xbox 360 player add-on going to be my cheapest option?

You won't get any cheaper than this: http://hotukdeals.com/item/238279/venturer-shd7001e-hd-dvd-player-2-h/

Otherwise try Gamestation / Toys R Us - some stores still have the 360 HD DVD add-on for less than £20. Otherwise keep checking the classifieds and eBay.
#36
awesome thanks, got shooter and Disturbia :)
#37
One thing about High Definition movies though (HD-DVD and Blu-Ray), personally I can't see much of a difference between them and DVDs on standard sized television sets.

Now, if you've got a massive brand new LCD tv, *then* you can see a big difference, and they're totally worth investing in. But on a standard sized 32-38 inch tv? I think DVD is still just as good.
#38
You can notice the difference if your tv is HD.
If you are using a standard tv then you will not see any difference.
I have a panasonic 37" plasma and the difference is truly greater

As said before try game, gamestation, toys r us. I picked up a 360 hddvd add on drive 3months ago for £12.99. CEX sell them for 30 quid and there are some decent deals on fleabay if you look carefully. I just wish I had of bought more than 1 drive for 12.99 now as i want a spare
#40
I think I have most films on HD now, even the films I had never seen I ended up buying, some were good and some were poor.
I really want anchorman now but still around £10 import
