Of course i know it, don't try to act smart.
What i meant was, there is nothing wrong at all with going there.
So i have no idea why you are mentioning about it being occupied.

It's not your mother land. The Greeks don't deserve Cyprus.

By illegal, I presume you mean in this context?

Although I'm sure no-one posting here knows whether the hotel being mentioned is actually built on land that's under dispute in the same way as the link above.

Anyone going to Northern Cyprus should do their research - and I'd suggest now isn't a good time to look at property out there.

The only person who doesn't know what they are talking about is you.
Turkish Cypriots have been living in Cyprus for more than 500 years.
Turkey invaded it to protect their people and to get back what was rightfully theirs, Cypriot territory.
In future, get your information from non-wikipedia places.

and how long do you think the greek cypriots have been living there....:whistling::-D

there are 1000 year old greek churches all over the island (been many times to Southern Cyprus)

Okay the facts are this:

Turks and Greeks have both lived in Cyprus for centuries. Since Turkey’s ‘intervention’ (for want of a better word) in 1974, Northern Cyprus essentially does not exist. There’s no such country (except in the eyes of Turkey, certainly not in the eyes of the United Nations). It’s not recognised. Technically, it is occupied territory. Which is why the UN are there. Any flights there will have to route via Turkey. Buildings built there since 1974 may well have been built on land seized from Greek owners (the same may be true in the South of course).

Hopefully the situation may resolve itself soon, if common sense prevails. It will need to be sorted out if Turkey wants ever join the EU.

Well if you really know your history, you would know the Greeks were not the first to claim Cyprus.
It was in the fact the Hittites from the kingdom of Anatolia (Yep, modern day Turkey).
And Turkey controlled Cyprus for around 300 years under the Ottoman Empire.
So i think, yes i think, that Turkey does have a part to play in Cyprus.

Ok I was not talking about the Turkish Cypriots who lived on the island before 1974, its about the thousands of British and Turkish people that have since invaded it.

I'm mixed race, father English and mother Greek Cypriot. From what I know, the English government actually helped/or didn't try to stop Turkey invading Cyprus. Sorry to say this in basic english but Turkish Cypriots were thrown out of the homes or even killed to make space for people from Turkey.

Its kind of ironic my father doesn't want me to marry an English man as he says you can't trust them yet he doesn't want me to marry a Greek cos they a mommy's boys. So I can't win.

So do you think Italy should have a 50% stake in the UK? After all, the roman empire got here before most of our relatives from Germany :-D

Every country and territory has to have been won by war. Otherwise we wouldn't have a country to live in.
So Turkey's invasion to gain their rightful territory in Cyprus was just the same as the UK conquering it's countries a few hundred years ago to create the British Empire.
So why criticise the country when this deal was posted? Because you may as well criticise every country in that case.

It's still hot there, and hot deal!
