I'm typing this in my apartment in Sandton. I've been here since January 4th and have to say it's all been very pleasant so far. Other than when a cheetah snapped at me last weekend but I digress. Food is excellent, people are very friendly. Most people recommend not going out on the street after dark. I've not had any trouble at traffic lights but you do get a lot of beggars and hawkers but they are not intimidating. The one thing to watch out for are the white mini bus (taxi) drivers as they are somewhat erratic drivers and I'm told, usually armed. The advice is to avoid confrontation with them.

Are there any safari parks in Joberg?

I'm in Johannesburg right now, there's a lion park in town and a couple less than an hour from town.

Just don't stop at any lights you'll get car jacked or shot in the head. Robberies are rife and if you resist they will kill or injure you. If you want assisted dying this deal is hot....!
Thanks for the informative comment. I assume you have been there, and got shot in the head, and haven't yet recovered from the brain damage.

Know people that lived there (now back in uk because of how bad it is) and some that still live there (who also say it's bad too). They have massive gates and fences and security (in what in England would be a normal street). At many road junctions people lie in wait for cars to stop and either try and pull the driver out or shoot them and take the car.

You may laugh but they really don't give a damn who you are, if they want it they take it. Your choice really, some risks just aren't worth taking for a few minutes of fun at a safari.

If you enjoy living life on the edge go for it. If you value your life and that of your children go Disneyland instead.
Was their in October. Arrived in Johannesburg took the train from there to Durban and had a wonderful time. Cheap too. Kids have lots of things to do. Very impressed and would like to go back. Always have to watch your back though. Just be smart, attentive and do not go out wandering at night unless your in a popular shopping centre or cosmopolitan area.

This made us laugh - someone clearly doesn't know the difference between Afrikaans and Africans!
Someone knows the accent that is not nice.

@ OP could you add the Please note -- Tipping of £4 per person, per day (£144 total) will be added to your cabin bill during the cruise. This charge is payable in addition to the above prices. to the total cost in the title for people. :)
+1
I'd say you could spend a couple of thousand on top of the cost.
Its £144 per person. The charge is for how many of you there is not how many staff there is so if there was 4 of you it would be an extra £576 :)

I think i mis-quoted somewhere sorry. I meant to quote the post about adding drinks costs to the bill.
I've been on a Cruise and Maritime cruise from Liverpool to Norway on a bargain sub £299 deal. The company itself is really geared up for the older passenger. On the plus this meant we were first off the ship as we didn't need assistance and we weren't stuck in the wheelchair/walking stick queue for meals so it did have it's advantages. The entertainment was knitting, card making and the Hairspray movie shown on DVD. Tom Jones seemed to filter through the the cabins and public areas on a loop. It was a funny experience and a very cheap way of exploring Norway compared with flight/hotel prices but you may need to lower your expectations. It's good value to see somewhere on a non-fly cruise and tipping is added to your bill but you can remove it 48 hrs before your cruise finishes if you wish and tip staff individually.

We also took alcohol on board at Liverpool but it was a few days after the new cruise terminal area opened so don't think they were bothered on checking.

If I wanted to gain weight n chill ideal, unlimited food gym n sun. Or just take a silly amount of spirits with you u probs want 15 Ltrs of spirit I think you can take unlimited soft drinks on just be creative ha
Unfortunately you wouldn't be allowed to take any Alcohol on board, and the soft drinks are usually included anyway.. :(

. Ship old and cruise company name " holiday pirates" doesn't exactly instill any confidence in experienced. At £1500 per person with only 55% positive reviews looks like there's been some mutineer's. Think I'll be steering clear of this ship
Holiday Pirates isn't the cruise company name, it is merely a website showing where bargains can be had, including cruises, package holidays etc. They are usually last minute or far off bookings but they do show some cracking deals from time to time..

That's correct... meaning that the passengers pay MORE as there isn't 800 staff ! Whenever I cruise I always tip the staff that serve me personally, this unfortunately is a little biased, as the mechanics, kitchen staff, cleaners etc have all done their bit too but this is where the greedy cruise line owners have their duty to attach the relevant wage.

Went there a few years ago to renew visa for Bulgaria (before they joined EU) - fantastic, amazing etc etc words are not enough to describe it.
The scenery around (and views of) the lake is out of this world.
I went by bus from Sofia to Skopje, stayed there a few days and then on to Ohrid again by bus, all cheap as chips really.
If you have a few hours to spare, take a bus from Ohrid down to St Naum and then just walk across the border into Albania getting a new country stamp in your passport.
When I was there, there was a little café/restaurant a few minutes walk down the road, so it was possible to have a coffee in a different country as well - the border official was a bit bemused and couldn't understand why a crazy westerner would do such a thing !
Probably mean a different or longer trip maybe, but Matka is just outside Skopje and is also an incredible place to spend a day or two - check it out online and marvel at the spectacular photos of the canyon, which can be seen with a short walk from the bus stops there - if you love the photos then believe that it's even better when you're there in person.
Perhaps I should admit that I was with a fluent speaker of Bulgarian, and as Macedonian is very similar then it was all much easier, but basic English is common in tourist areas like Ohrid so not too difficult - we rented a flat in Ohrid for just under a week from an agency by the bus station.

yeah man... too crazy X)

Pity it's from Newcastle, otherwise would have been very tempted at that price.
Me too..would cost me more to get to Newcastle then Poland!
It's a nice change to find a deal like this from Newcastle. They're usually from London, Manchester, Birmingham or Glasgow.
nice thanks
I have just come back from Wroclaw. Great place! And also a great hub from which to travel to other places in Poland. The airport bus takes you opposite the train station. You can buy train tickets online in advance http://www.intercity.pl/en/ or from the ticket machines at the train station if you prefer.

I took the train to Krakow which was great and there were power points at each seat of the train journey (I booked a train comparment). It took just over 3 hours and cost less than £9. I took my portable mifi with me to entertain myself on the journey (Three feel at home data sim) so the three hours flew past.

Whilst its still a beautiful worthwhile city break, I feel its becoming very tacky. I went about 10 years ago and loved our 4 night break. Then returned this year and couldnt believe how the city centre had become a free for all tourist trap full of vendours and promoters selling their tacky wears and services. The influx of Tourists from around the world since there are no borders anymore has made it a lot easier for coach tours making it a very busy place to try navigate.

I found it was more the locals pandering to it being a tourist trap that lessened the experience.

Literally everywhere you move in the old town you are getting harassed to go to a bar, take a leaflet, go on a damn tour etc. And at night we couldn't move between bars for people offering us drugs or trying to get you into suspect "clubs".
Thank you for my Evergreen Flamedeer X)
p.s if you any of you decide to go, its freezing this time of year. We went in Feb and it was -14. Just opposite the astronomical clock, on a little stall, is the best hot chocolate you will ever taste. Your welcome :D

Anyone know the best way to get to and from the airport? I see a transfer on kayak is more than the hotel lol
There is a bus which goes to a shopping mall and you can then get to the centre of Prague from there, otherwise it pretty much is a private hire (550kr) or shared (250kr) of course with the shared option you may have to go to everyone elses hotel first.

pretty easy to get bus from airport and so easy to get around. Transport is cheap and regular. It really is a lovely place to visit.

bus number 100 or 119 is a short hop to the metro and the metro is fast. I find part of the charm of going somewhere is finding my way around. I never use transfers just grab a map and go explore

Weather is poor at the moment here. Wet and windy. Hotel is North of Island away from the livelier areas. Mellieha is very quiet at this time.

Decent hotel in a nice location, away from the costa del type areas. Stayed there in April this year. Lovely restaurant around the corner (can't recall name) - didn't eat at the hotel, though.

So initially I voted hot because I thought - damn that's a great deal. Now, I'm here and I'm stuck in the hotel with only Germans. Socks and sandals galore and not to mention the deck chair fight at the pool each morning at 6:00am.

In all seriousness - did anyone else book this and is here now? OP, can I buy you a poncha at the Christmas market over the weekend?

we went to Marrakech end of January this year, tee shirt in the daytime, jumper evenings. around 22 degrees most days.
if only it was for February, I'd happily ignore the water park and go back and enjoy Marrakech itself

I wouldn't worry too much, Morocco's great and all inclusive will have security all over..

LOL, you're more likely to be ran over outside your house than be chosen by ISIS as their next victim.
OK mate I think the Moroccans are better off without people's like you and your bird! You confine yourself to devon and cornwall and watch the world go by!
Think you've replied to the wrong person. I don't have a girlfriend, I don't live in cornwall and travel, a lot. Though it wouldn't be a bad place to settle down if I was that way inclined, it's a lovely part of the country.
Sorry, was aimed at the xbox dude with attitude!
But Cornwall is a lovely place, maybe not as much sun as Morocco though. Im sure they would welcome you as you seem less (or not) racist like our bud xbox with attitude.
Also I know some ladies if you're after a girlfriend!
No thanks, I like my personal space too much and I couldn't deal with the ear ache every time I wanted to go galavanting around the globe.

I'm thinking of going to Morocco seeing as its only a few hours away. Seems reasonably priced. Think I'd like the food too.

Many thanks for this, OP. Our son now getting surprise visit!
£20 cheaper than previous post. Have never known anywhere like Houston Airport for people going crazy over the English accent. Could almost book again just for that reason X)

Heat added .
