It has oil in it which makes it more energy efficient and kicks out more heat per unit of elctricity. It's a sealed unit and doesn't have to be refilled (i.e. the oil inside just conducts heat and is not consumed) :thumbsup:

I bought a Honeywell oil filled radiator 7 years ago and it is still going strong, ideal for cold winter nights, mine is a lot smaller but definitely recommended!

They are cheaper to run as they are thermostatically controlled. Also, the oil holds the heat for longer, thus allowing the heat to radiate into the room for longer - unlike the ceramic ones which give an instant blast of heat but cool down rapidly when turned off.

You get exactly the same amount of heat from £1 of electricity, no matter whether you're running it through a thermostat, getting an instant blast, or heating up a bunch of oil.
These certainly aren't "cheaper to run" than any other form of electric heating - 1 unit of electric costs you exactly the same, no matter what device is consuming it !

(obviously the exception to this is a storage heater running on cheaper overnight electric...)

The only possible points to note are that you might get decreased heat loss through a wall if using these offset from a wall compared to a wall mounted heater. You also generally get a lower peak of heat, hence why the heat can often feel different from oil heaters compared with convecter style wall heaters.

Yes, you really do seem not to understand! The oil retains the heat for longer due its density and chemical make-up. Take a cup of hot water, fill it with 500ml of fluid - it will cool quickly. Heat 500ml of oil to the same temp and see how long it takes to cool - it will take longer; same principal for this heater.

What you put in, you get out. Hence the oil one will take longer to cool (higher Cp) BUT would have taken more energy to heat up by the same dT.

Christ - I was always more of a C student when it comes to Physics - English being much more my bag baby lol

I just want to know if it's a good deal and it seems to be - tempted to get one for my dad who has an office in a garden summerhouse which tends to get cold.

what goes in must come out.

oil will take longer to warm but will also take longer to cool down... thus providing an more even output (if u can imagine a graph)
normal heaters will heat up fast, but will cool down fast, which produces more cycles of heating/cooling but same energy usage.

matter of preference really- with a thermostat both are equally efficient. i prefer even heat.

You want a real comparison gas central heating with a modern condensing boiler vs electrical heating with something like this cost of electricity vs gas etc.

These are handy for say your garage or where there is no gas central heating we have a little one and they do come in handy.

It is actually heat transfer that you are talking about, and I think you will find that heat transfer still obeys the first and second laws. The way that the heat is conducted away from the heat source is irrelevant; the same heat is still produced from the same electricity.

amazon also have the smaller better looking 800w DeLongi Bambino oil,filled radiator at £22.09 delivered.
Its RRP is £59 ( as quoted on the DeLongi website ).

Erm, in your scenario the oil took a lot longer to heat up.
Or you used a lot more electricity and heated it up in the same time !

As I said, there seems to be some problem with Physics here :) It doesn't matter one jot whether you fill the radiator with oil or water or liquified mice. Heating costs remain identical.

Wrong - all electrical heaters are approximately 100% efficient.

It is precisely as simple as X electricity always produces X heat !

The thing that differs, is how you distribute the heat. A halogen heater will mainly radiate it's heat out, whereas an oil-filled radiator will operate mainly through convection. At no point does the total room heating ever change !
