There were times when trains like the Blue Highlander hauled freight wagons as well as a single coach along small Scottish branch lines.

This set includes a tough little locomotive which boasts Scottish origins, a selection of wagons plus a small passenger coach.

The oval of track with siding adds a degree of operational interest as wagons have to be shunted to and fro as they are dropped off at their destination, only to be picked up on the return journey.

For ages 5 years and over.

Very good deal. Got this a couple of weeks ago from Argos for half price at£49.

Think this was posted last week and I was wondering if it was ever worth £100....
#3
Yep...I am gutted that I bought it for £49.99 now!!!
#4
does it comes with the complete floor layout or just the track?

If this was ever at £100 that was a rip-off. £39.99 is not too bad. A warm deal. If it didn't have the siding included I would say cold.

Judging by other Hornby sets that I've bought for my nephews, it will come with the mat and the track for the basic layout. This can be extended by buying the various track packs to make the more complex layouts featured on the mat or obviously you can make up your own layouts.

this set is never worth £100. its the equivilent of £50 sets everywhere else, so £10 off is a good deal, for £50 its just normal..

its pretty similar to this

Despite some adverse comments, the price is excellent. Just bought a couple for Grandsons.

I also bought the Wilkinson Plus one last week and may buy this one also as it's not that bad a deal for the extra track and train/carriages etc. Should do nicely for my 5 year old son unless anybody has seen the Eddie Stobart one cheap anywhere?? :-D

From what I can see, they don't have the Blue Highlander at tescodirect, but the Hornby Local Freight Train instead. An excellent find nether the less:thumbsup:

Like NSA, I had wondered about buying one of the cheaper sets to get extra bits for my winlkinsonplus set (Flying Scotsman) but from the looks of the pictures, it looks like all of these sets have the same sorts of tracks, so really it would be better spending the money on a proper expansion set, the only downside with that is that you would not get an extra train with the expansion set.:whistling:

I assume you mean the "Local Freight Train" one?? If so, it's not reduced in price according to the website although it's slightly cheaper than Argos et al
