Following on from the City Industrial Set posted a few days ago, this is another great value set, which I had delivered today. These sets offer much more for your money, than some of the others, and includes the basic train set, with Loco and Carriage/Wagons, and large oval of track, Trakmat, plus Track Pack A which forms a siding, plus an accessories pack, everything you need as the basis to great reailway layout.

It's worth pointingt that the original price of £144 is very inflated, but you'd expect this set to sell for around £59.99 to £79.99 normally, so forget the saving, and think about the price which is only £45!! and they're still offering FREE Christmas delivery (With the heavy snow today, this may no longer be possible depending on your location), and in stock (as at time of listing).I assume this also available at other online stores within the same group, Very etc

OK, here's some more info on this train set...

A video showing the opening and contents of this set..

The Hornby Midland Flyer Train Set lets you set your imagination in motion - this is a timeless toy guaranteed to give you hours of fun from the age of 5 to 95.

The Hornby Midland Flyer train set includes an 0-4-0 MR locomotive, a 12-ton vent van, Low mac and load, a teak 4-wheel coach, LWB open wagon and trackside accessories.

The set comes with enough 00 gauge track pieces to make an oval, plus a train controller. The track mat enables you to create a specific layout, that you can add to, or even create your own track layout.

A Hornby Midland Flyer Train Set is the perfect gift for any budding model train enthusiast.

The Trakmat contains a printed picture of a completed layout design, which you can build up to in steps, by purchasing Track Packs, the first of which is included in this set, which extends the oval and adds a siding.

Very tempted by this although it is €64 on the Irish site and have had bad experiences with littlewoods in the past....decisions, decisions. Is it really a good price?

Looks good, just a heads up that Very / Additions Direct (all the same group) are nearly always cheaper than Littlewoods. It's reduced from £120 on there. Another one here at £40 reduced from £130 -

Yes, I think some of the other group sites can be slightly cheaper, but they generally charge for Delivery unless you spend over a specific amount, Littlewoods is FREE delivery, no minimum spend. To the other poster, my experience of this order was excellent, Ordered Wednesday night, and here today @ 2pm, despite the snow!

Just to be clear for those who are not aware. The set will not come with all the track shown in the pic only part of it (you need to buy additional track packs to 'fill up' the track mat.

Those stations look very close. Wouldn't it be quicker to walk?

It's a pre-Beeching layout.

Thanks for adding that, yes I'd forgot that not everyone will be aware of the Hornby's Trakmat idea, which as mentioned is to allow anyone to build up to the layout shown on the mat in affordable stages, by buying Track Packs, which avoids buying incorrect sections. This also helps avoid having to design a layout from scratch, and with the printed layout design, helps give you a visually complete layout, even if it isn't.Obviously you don't have to use this, and can design your own layout, but the Trakmat simplifies the process of building up to a fairly decent and interesting layout design in manageable stages, which is just as well.I bought this set, as a cheaper way of adding to the layout I built my son last year, and then I'll sell all the surplus items bring the cost down even more, which works out a lot cheaper than just buying what I need even used!
The City Industrial Set mentioned is not the same, but similar in what you get, maybe just not so realistic with the blue carriage.

I don't believe the original price for one moment but £45 is a steal. More of a steal as I got a £20 code from them recently (desperate for me to order, they seem to do it every time I pay off my account). Just got to wait until my nephew's birthday in March to play (already got him too much for Christmas)

For those interested in seeing the track sections included, this shows how this set expands the basic oval, to one with a siding using the included Track Pack A
http://static.hornby.com/images/originals/r9075-3908.jpg

Extend your set in easy steps by adding Track Packs and TrakMat Accessory Packs all the way to the full layout pictured on your TrakMat scenic underlay sheet.

Click here for details on the other Track Packs (B - F), which will be required to fully complete the Trackmat layout.

No, neither did I, very inflated I can assure you, but you're quite right at £45, it's a steal, and much better value than the smaller Toy Story, Devon Flyer sets, which are actually more expensive at many places.

For those that didn't read the description, here's a video of the unboxing of this set, which shows you everything you'll get!

Well, hopefully everyone that wanted one of these got one in time, so as I won't be posting anymore deals for a few days at least, just want to wish all you fellow bargain hunters a very Merry Christmas, and a big thanks to all those that took the time to post deals and help save me a few quid this year!
