Boots.com are currently selling two hornby sets in their the hornby rover and virgin 125 train sets for £24.99 and £54.99 respectivley. These sets are £50+ and £110+ elsewhere. so a genuine saving.

Hornby Rover Set
Small goods trains like The Rover would have been seen on small branch lines that used to criss-cross the British countryside during the peak years of steam transport.

These little trains would collect a mixture of goods from the main despatch yards and transport them to towns, villages and hamlets along single track lines dropping off and picking up goods and produce along the way.

Hornby Virgin 125 Set
The privatised rail network is the theme of this set, featuring the Virgin livery as seen on 125 High Speed Trains in the west of Britain, from Aberdeen to Penzance.

The track that comes with this set is the starter oval plus track pack A to provide a siding. The power and dummy car lights illuminate in the direction of travel.

Advice please - what do these kits comprise? Is there track (how much) and I assume they're electric?

Want to buy this for my little 'un but unsure how much it'll cost to expand?

These sets come with a full circle of track, maybe a trackmat, and a transformer... if you want to look at prices visit some well known model shops such as www.ehattons.com or www.railssheffield.co.uk

Our son is 6 and has a complete trackmat with buildings and 4 trains, its cost us a fortune to buy the extra pieces and scenary etc but he absolutly loves it, its something that ones built should really stay build as its quite delicate... With his being 8ftlongx6ftwide we built a table and have his on there perminantly. The only thing we had problem is the switches ... because he has the full trackmat with the extras you have quite a few switches to change the track and my husband sorted the electric switches so he could change the track as he wouldnt be able to reach to the back...

But saying all that he loves his track and wouldnt want it any other way, if your just goinbg for the oval you wont have the thing with switches and wont be too big... its when you start expanding that things can get confussing and yourself get carried away like we did :)

What a fab deal! might have to buy one of them just for the trains....
