Fed up with Virgin junk mail......opt out

Keep getting addressed promo' mail from Virgin? Fill out the form and give it a go. It also gives a link to the general Royal mail unaddressed mail opt out as a plus as well.

Thanks
I tried the more direct approach and called Virgin Media. It took FOUR CALLS over the space of about 1 and a half years for them to comprehend my rather simple request to remove my name from their junk mail list. The only reason they had my details at all was because my dad had NTL cable in this flat - and of course Virgin bought NTL and they for some reason thought I'd enjoy being bombarded every single month without fail by offers of no interest to me.
They don't half get uppity when you ask to be "removed from your junk mail list" - one employee exclaiming "junk mail....?" YES!! You know that stuff I never ever asked to be sent, is of no interest to me as I have no intention of signing up with Virgin, and therefore is junk mail. There is not one single company in 12 years of living here that has ever come remotely close to being as big a PEST as Virgin are. The fact that they ignore your request the first few times ensured that even if they had the best offer around, I would never even consider them as a provider for anything.

Drives me mad, when I think, oh good, I've got mail.....oh nope, it's just ANOTHER Virgin letter. They keep changing their envelopes to disguise it too. We've never had any dealings with them in any way, yet we get it and that's with having a 'junk mail block' (obviously, that's not the technical name ;) )

My Husband works for BT so we've never contacted Virgin or NTL - never needed to (certainly never wanted to) doesn't stop them though. Oh and we've lived here for 27.1/2 years so I doubt it was the last people either.

Might try contacting them directly like Elevation did.

Thanks op.
ahh nice find, believe it or not we actually have virgin broadband .... however we get several mailers per week trying to get us to sign up to virgin tv, virgin mobile, virgin broadband, virgin faster broadband blah blah blah oh yeah and a diff mailer about virgin trains and virgin wines,.... their CS is terrible we've had the same IP address for 4 years thats locked to the superhub and when the router first obtained it the previous owner had obviously been a forum troll or something because we were blocked on that ip address before we even used it but virgin wont do anything as the superhub is fully functional and aparently the DDos attacks arn't something theyll deal with.

The latest from Virgin is that 0844 and 0871 numbers are NOT included in your minutes allowance. 0845 and 0870 are included, and of course 0800 and 0808 are free.
Just checked via live chat and they state all numbers are included that start with 08, no exclusions.
Do you have a source for your info?
What has become apparent is that Virgin staff basically haven't a clue! You phone and speak to someone, you then phone again, speak to someone else and they tell you differently from the previous person.
Quite frankly, the fat-cat bosses of companies like Virgin obviously are totally brass-necked and arrogant, and have no shame in taking their fat salaries while providing abysmal levels of customer service.
On the phone, Virgin have stated exactly what you have stated, i.e. not all 08 numbers are included. I asked where was this stated and she said in the terms, but couldn't tell me where!
And in my tariff summary screen there is no mention of the included 08 calls either!

As I have learned today, just because Virgin offer you unlimited/2500/5000 08 minutes does not mean they're going to let you use them. I had a contract which used just a bit over 2000 minutes last month and they have just forced termination citing "excessive usage of 08 numbers". I asked them how it can be excessive when the new £10 contracts offer 2500 minutes rather than the usually vague "unlimited" and they wouldn't budge.

It seems that now not only do we have to question what unlimited really means but even when you are sold a specific number of minutes (and I guess texts and data) you may not get to use them!

My line was terminated too today with same reason, so basically it was not unlimited nor they want you to use too much.

I've used a code 3 times since seeing this deal. can't believe you can just keep generating new codes to use.

Yep I too have a few good cups of flat white out of it! I know Virgin peddle their wares through the app and no doubt I will bin it once the coffee offer runs out and if they don't keep up with interesting freebies... But it cost me nowt for the app and I get half my coffee bill at Nero paid for by someone else! Hardly worth me getting bad press about!

Enjoy and drink responsibly ha ha!

It's really just to promote their services.
Offers are not great.
But it's a free app. It doesn't really do much other than promote virgin products
There is often a promotion on virgin rail fares on this too. 20% off some fares using code VRed20.
Thank you for this, have installed this and look forward to my free coffee 8)

My contract ends next month.
Gonna be paying £17.99 line rental + £19.99 for 70Mb broadband.
How good the retentions deals are?

I'm on same tariff. Renegotiated in December and I'm getting 50mb bb (upgrading to 70mb soon) for £3.50 for this year + cost of land rental which I paid for in advance @ £164. Spoke with a nice bloke called Bob if it helps in retentions. Initially, he didn't offer me anything to entice me and I kept saying I was moving to Sky so was quite up front they would need to offer me a good deal to keep my custom. After 15 minutes, he offered 50mb for the aforementioned £3.50/month. Hope it helps.
I called up on Friday and took landline plus 50mb rising to 70mb broadband for £25pm for six months, then £28 for the last 6 months of 12 month deal.
My contract ends next month.
Gonna be paying £17.99 line rental + £19.99 for 70Mb broadband.

How good the retentions deals are?
did my line rental server on Saturday so saved some money before the increase comes into effect today.
I rang yesterday, renegotiated my contract. Saved approx £170 over the next year with this deal & lowering my package cost, sending me a Tivo box(only ever had basic box) plus free upgrade to next TV package. Well worth a call.

I never got sent a jiffy bag in the end. So now it's time for the threatening letter followed by court action. It's the only option left for me.
Well I finally got my £10 for the SIM I returned after only receiving refund of £109.99. what a farce, apparently they didn't hold my bank details to refund it so had to call them and give card details, so how did they manage the phone refund?? never again with virgin no matter how good the deal seems.

Doesn't work on windows phones, very disappointed
Great app as it turns your none sim standard iPad into a phone - I tend to use it for longer work type calls as quality on the speaker is pretty good
used the smart call service while in Mexico earlier this year no problem save a fortune in calls
Used this very successfully last year when on holiday in Mauritius - overheard my Dad whisper to my Mum " This call must be costing her a fortune!". :3
Thanx. As my wife and I have promised ourselves at least 3 foreign holidays, inc. short breaks, per year this will come in very handy for calling those friends and family members who don't use viber, whatsapp or skype.

Please dont put your insensitive views on here about these free calls. It is the least our bloated businesses can do. I have families and friends in Nepal and spent over £100 in first two days after the earthquake. I cant put it in words how important those calls were for me, my families and friends.
Shame I am with BT who have not responded in similar ways. Instead published their huge profits for them and thier greedy shareholders recently. Their charge was around £2 per minute to nepal. If BT had done the right thing I would have been able to add this to the donation I made to charities during amazing work in this devastating situation.
So please do be sensitive when you put your views forward here as there are a lot of nepalese people in this part of the world who are grieving for their loved ones at the moment and some of whom probably will never be able to speak to their dear ones.
You joined in Feb 2009 and have zero "like" in your profile on this forum. Who are you to preach sensitivity. Folks here like anything free and hot deals here, just like any free calls, they are commenting on public relations exploitation, not the fact it is free. They can make it free for Jordan, Rwanda, Philippines , Iraq, Afghanistan, North Korea etcetera free if they are genuine to help sufferers around the globe. Even better if they include free calls for tsunami, disease, Ebola, etcetera if they are sincere.

Even if one person did then it's beneficial no? No pleasing some ppl.

Exactly. Do something, others criticize. Do nothing, they complain over nothing being done. I bet these free calls will truly be helpful to those with friends and family in Nepal right now.

A turnip of a 'deal'. Plus you can get a 1GB standard deal for £12 at Mobiles.co.uk on a 30-day rolling contract and 1200 minutes as a non-VM customer. Same price as with the £5 VM customer discount (just not 'unlimited' minutes - who needs more than 1200 mins?). No longer available unfortunately.

I've just signed up for a new 12 month contract. Who do I ask to speak to on the phone if the Netflix deal is still available? Thanks.

I think you best speak to the sales team and ask them to put it on your contract. If they say no remind them that their website states that if you sign up for any big bundle you get 6 months netflix for free. You have 31 days to cancel after signing up so if they won't put it on you can put your notice in and get a retentions-based deal instead.

We are still with Virgin Media for the Broadband and phone only.I pay £144 for the line rental yearly saver and £5 for the internet up to 50mb.This price is a customer loyalty offer giving a good discount.I have looked at other providers but will hold off another year until I see more people using them where we live
The phone service are chargeable in the week but free at weekends as we have loads of free calls on our mobiles we don't use the phone in the week.
We also have two sim only deals for £7 each with Virgin Mobile which have been running for sometime now and today they have agreed to another £7 deal for the same arrangement 1200 min unlimited texts and 1 gig data on a month by month deal
This deal is not available now as previously mentioned on here but with some efforts you maybe lucky that the retentions dept in the UK may give you this providing you have been with them before. If not you may consider accepting the £8 new deal for new contracts then haggle a better package giving you maybe less minutes and more data.

just ordered sim card.....have to wait until it arrives? or is there another way?
Bought this when it was £49 a week or so ago. Delivered within 24 hours (went up £20 within MINUTES of me buying it with free delivery) it was UNLOCKED, has my 3 sim card in and working fine. The 4gb memory is a severe restriction though and the only negative apart from a so-so camera
ah. .the cleaner, the reason I hate android, the need for clean-ups! Try LagFix free too if your device is running slow, it trims the memory chip that can become full over time.

But I am tearing my hair out. Put lots of stuff on, transferred it to SD then I tried to put another 200mb app on and the internal is full - does it LEAVE the downloads on the internal ???? How can I delete them ? I have - quite literally - removed everything I had put on yet it's STILL full.

I hope someone can answer this as I have a similar problem on another make of phone. The internal memory is full and the setting is to download everything to SD card but try to download something and it comes back insufficient room.
Try downloading clean master app and try to clean up unwanted files. Also if your device is rooted then you can install app2sd and move apps to SD.. but there is more technical stuff involved in do this bit.

Thanks for you rapid response will try these later today.

Thanks. I reset the whole phone, installed "The Cleaner" and it seems to have done the trick. Everything back on, and nearly 600mb left.
That said, It seems to remove hundreds of MB yet I see very little diff in whats left of space on the phone !

Currently paying £66.07 for:
1*Tivo and 1*V+ boxes; XL TV; Weekends only phone; 60mb BB

Been quoted £59.49 for
1*Tivo and 1*V+ boxes; XL TV; Weekends only phone; 152mb BB
Also £150 for the sky sports pass as per this thread.

I think that's pretty good right? sounds a bit cheaper than what others have been quoted.
I currently have M TV & L BB, paying c£58 pm inc BT Sports. Called Retentions to enquire about Sky Sports and they were able to get it down to c£50 pm without BT Sports for 6 months and then £64 pm afterwards. I had a look on Sky.com for comparison and they have the Original Bundle inc SkySports for £50 pm for 12 months. Seems a much better deal than having to haggle with Virgin so going to move to them instead
Just called up their retentions line.
Wasn't calling from my home phone, so dialed 0345 454 1111, but if calling from virgin line can dial 150.

I chose option 5 for moving house, then option 3 for wanting to cancel without moving house.

I currently have 120Mb Broadband, XL TV and M phone with an extra V+ box in another room. With line rental my monthly bill was £76.24.

I've moved to the Big Kahuna package, added caller ID to the phone package, removed the extra box and I'm now going to pay £55.99/month. I wasn't really using the extra box anyway so not much of a loss for me.

I managed to add the Sports Pass for £150, but he said it would also include the HD channels at no extra charge.
A "good deal" and I'll vote it "hot", but god it pains me to class still being bent over and shafted for basically the ability to watch Sport as something to shout about.

Sport aside, what the heck does paying all that money get you that Freeview, a decent basic 50mb Broadband and choice of streaming service doesn't? Basically very little from what I can see.

Good luck to you guys that are happy fronting the extra and all that though, "horses for courses" and all that..
laserdisc
mellor good luck with installation hope you enjoy seems your price very similar to mine i pay £8 extra for the... free Weekday calls & a tivo box fee which is about £5per mth

i dont know how the loyalty bonus is calculated, if you have been with virgin for some time i would have thought you should receive some loyalty bonus i seem to get £4.

some are having to pay £49 for installation some pay nothing, others pay £20 for superhub internet box all this has to be taken into account

i am really pleased with broadband speed, i am near a virgin terminal so getting excellent services ,
check out your internet speed when you get it , the engineer will check so ask him , its a lot faster than Sky.

mine was a 12mth contract so worth reviewing annually
there are designated broadband speed sites which make this easy to check

the boxes are good the tivo is excellent for holding & playback at a time to suit

all in all i am very pleased

Thanks mate can't wait for it all to be set up

Will tcb or quidco work with this deal? Also it can be done online, can't it?
Not sure about cash back but it can be done by the phone, I think you have to tell them to match the offer online.

virginn media logoBig Savings On Phone and Internet Packages With Virgin Media

As the name suggests, Virgin Media is closely related (but not owned by) Richard Branson’s Virgin Group. It was founded in the 1980s as Telewest, then became NTL and finally struck a partnership with Virgin to use their brand. Although their origins lay in fibre optic phone cables, Virgin now offer a huge variety of telecommunications services, including mobile coverage, cable television and super-fast broadband. By 2016, they had amassed over 4 million broadband customers and phone users.

Where to Buy Virgin Media Products

Customers can either visit their local Virgin Media store or shop online to purchase the company’s products. If you’d like to shop in person, the easiest way to locate your local branch is by using the company’s store locator tool. When you enter your postcode, the site will display a map of your nearest outlets and it should be easy to find a route to reach them.

The other alternative is to shop online at the Virgin Media store at www.virginmedia.com, where customers can buy all of the firm’s products, often with big discounts.

Product Categories On Offer At Virginmedia.com

Shoppers at virginmedia.com can choose from the following major product categories:

  • TV – Virgin TV is a comprehensive cable TV service that provides access to popular channels like Sky One and Sky Sports, all of the main movie channels, news and many more besides. Customers can choose between TV and phone or pure TV packages as well as between TiVo and V HD boxes.
  • Phone – Virgin offers a huge range of phone packages at different price points, featuring a variety of unlimited call features. There are also special phone options for businesses, options to link your TV and smartphone (TV on the go) and Wifi Buddy, which allows you to connect to more than 2000 wi-fi hotspots across the UK.
  • Mobile – Includes pay monthly and pay as you go phones, with a range of tariffs for each. Also includes iPhones, SIM only phones and upgrade options for existing Virgin Mobile customers.
  • Entertain Me – Streaming movies, music and TV services as well as sporting events.

After that, the checkout process is the same as usual, and all users need to register with Virgin Media before they can finish.

Delivery and Installation Options from Virgin Media

If this date isn’t convenient and you would like to reschedule, just call 0345 4541111. Alternatively, sign into your Virgin Media Account and go to the “Track orders” tab. Now click on “Reschedule”, select a new date and press “Submit” when you have finished.

Order tracking is also available to Virgin Media customers. Virgin use Yodel to deliver their boxes and phones. To track an order, head to the Yodel site and enter your Order Confirmation Number.

Cancelling Virgin Media Services

To cancel a contract with Virgin Media, customers need to call the company to discuss their options on 0345 4541111 or 150 (from Virgin Mobile phones).

When you choose to cancel with Virgin, the company requires that all customers send their Virgin kit back to them and they have taken steps to make this as easy as possible. Remember, the equipment you use for broadband and TV is leased, not owned by the user.
