This bonus is plus the 4.5% cashback

quidco works out to roughly £50 on this. Nice spot Mike. For the spec that really is a very good price.
I just got a slightly faster one from outlet for £590 so that shows how aggressively priced this is for the main site.
[mod]#3
Yes I think its a stonker of a deal with the 256meg graphics already selected.
#4
Yes this one has nearly caught up with the Comet Acer. No doubt in a few weeks I will regret buying the Acer.

Hope not spudgun....the Acer at £700 still has more than £80 worth of spec over this..the 7200 CPU alone would account for quite a bit of this..and of course the 7600 graphics ...but I agree this Dell is an excellent price for the spec

£656.82 with truelife screen and 667 Mhz memory..recommended additions IMO.

Yes I agree the Acer is better at the moment but I suspect Dell may beat it in the next 4 weeks. Saying that the choice of GPUs for the Dell notebooks(excluding XPS) is poor and they probably won't be changing that soon.
You know whats its like though always a better product round the corner.;-)

Looks good deal but prefer Acer...

So is this here to stay, or is it still a limited offer?

Nothing is here to stay with Dell's pricing policy...it's vey much a lottery..so if this is what you are after my advice would be to buy now..especially with the extra Quidco on offer,
#11
Which Acer are you all refering to?

This?

That Acer is certainly a great value power house. However, I feel the £499 5633WLMi on offer from Tesco (if in stock) is a better deal for the average user....then again I would say that as I currently have a spare one for sale on FOR SALE Section!

The above N03643a is the best ever from dell, so far. Voted hot.

However, how well priced this system is??. Apart from not being Pentium Processor, I can't see a fault in this.

The battery life on the one you mention there is poor.

MikeT - do you know if there is a similar model with Vista Premium instead of Vista Business?

I just spent £977 on a Inspiron 6400 put on some extras and its great. But Quidco only give me the 4% I didnt get the other £25 that they were offering. I have let them know. Does anyone know if I can buy something to get my printer wireless as well? :)
[mod]#16
Yes there are several 6400's with Premium but the cpu is poor on those and half the ram.

The £25 wont show on Quidco till the end of the month, wireless printing DP301U from DLink will do it.

Thanks :)

I placed this order on phone, as I needed XP Pro and 7200 rpm hard-disk.

Price £710.
Inspiron 6400 Core 2 Duo Processor T5600 (1.83Ghz, 667MHz FSB 2MB L2 cache)
Memory Dual-Channel 2048MB (2x1024) 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Wide Screen 15.4" WXGA (1280x800) TFT Display
DVD+/-RW (Read/Write) 8x Fixed Internal
Graphics Card ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 256MB with TV and S-Video Output PCI-Express x16

Battery Primary 9 cell 80W/HR LI-ION
European Dell TrueMobile 355 internal Bluetooth Module, for XP
English - Genuine Windows XP Pro SP2 - including Media
Hard Drive 100GB Serial ATA (7200 RPM)

Did I do good?.

The price I got on website config below was £686, but had to pay extra £24 for XP Pro and Hard disk speed.
Inspiron 6400 Core 2 Duo Processor T5600 (1.83Ghz, 667MHz FSB 2MB L2 cache)
Memory Dual-Channel 2048MB (2x1024) 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM

Intel Pro Wireless 3945 802.11a/b/g Mini-PCI Card (for Core 2 Duo Processor)
Battery Primary 9 cell 80W/HR LI-ION
Bluetooth Dell Wireless 350 Bluetooth 2.0 Module (up to 3Mbps) with Enhanced Data Rate, for Vista
English - Genuine Windows Vista Business - including Media
Hard Drive 120GB (5,400rpm) Hard Drive

Could I have done a better bargain?. Salesman also said XP Pro is much preferred for Oracle than Vista Business.
[mod]#21
Well the base config is a really good price so they wont want to give away too much else on the extras you wanted, I think I would have pushed for around £680 all in and had they refused I would have rung another sales person till I got them to agree as you have lost the £25+4.5% Quidco.

But if your happy then just enjoy it as its still a cracking deal built on the very good base price.

Thanks. Yeah, I could have made another £60 via quidco, but couldn't get 7200 rpm hard disk. Is that worth it??.
The salesman also said he may not give the above config for £710 on Mon. Anyway, he said I can still cancel and order another on Monday. Is that true?. Does Dell allow cancellation of order once it is into production??.
[mod]#23
You can cancel right up to dispatch without problems, of course you also have the option to return it within the distance selling regs if you dont like it once you recieve it.
If you need to wring its neck then the 7200rpm disc may be worth it but otherwise I doubt you will notice the difference.
Try another salesperson ;-)
#24
It seems Oracle is not compatible with Vista, or atleast it is not recommended. Any comments??
[mod]#25
Set up a dual boot and use a "dell xp disc" and run what you need under xp?

I called up Dell today and I spoke to a different Sales person and I asked him to him change back 100 GB 7200 rpm to 120 GB 5400 rpm. He said he can do that, but it will reduce only by £7, however if I needed only 80 GB 5400 rpm, I can get a reduction of £77 (bringing the price down to £633).

So if anyone is looking for XP Pro and happy with 80 GB , this is the specs I got for £633.
Inspiron 6400 Core 2 Duo Processor T5600 (1.83Ghz, 667MHz FSB 2MB L2 cache)

English - Genuine Windows XP Pro SP2 - including Media
Hard Drive 80GB Serial ATA (5400 RPM)

You may also reduce more (may be £25), if you don't need bluetooth.
[mod]#27
Thats a better price ;-) apart from braging rights I cant see the need for huge hard drives on laptops, usb external drives are so cheap now for when your at home and all plugged into the mains. Well done.

BTW Bluetooth modules for these can be bought on ebay quite cheaply and are not hard to fit should you wish to go that way

[FONT="Century Gothic"]A question for MikeT

Hi, I am new to this forum have been looking for a new PC, since I have come back from travelling the world.

I have taken a lot of video footage of my travels and am looking to transfer these to DVD for showing friends and family.

I was wondering if you can recommend a Dell PC, that would be good for converting avi's, mpegs to DVD & general web surfing, putting CD's etc on my iPod.:whistling:

Thanks in advance. [/FONT]
[mod]#29
All the dual core and core2duo pc's will do what you want with ease, windows movie maker is free and easy to use to transfer your footage to dvd.
I've not tried the Vista movie maker but guess it will be as easy too, just find a pc or laptop in your budget and post your questions in that thread.
Welcome to HUKD btw ;-)
For general "what pc should I buy" questions I suggest a new thread in Deal Requests

#33
Hey peeps.

I'm looking to buy a laptop like this in about a months time. Just wondering if I should snap this up or wait a month and see what offers are floating around then?

Are there likely to be similar models for the price in a month (or better) or is that just foolish talk?

Chers for any help / input.
Dave.

[mod]#34
Personally I would say grab this while its hot, its the extra Quidco together with a really well kitted deal that I think will be hard to beat for a few weeks once the quidco drops back to normal.

I make this one £586.84 after cashback and thats a cracker of a deal.

Last day today for the current dell deals.

*sigh*

Just seen this one as well, and I wants it!

Hmmm, what to do, what to do. Why is life always full of awkward decisions?

I think you should follow Mke's advice..this is an excellent price...if you order today and there's a better deal with the new Dell offers tomorrow then you can cancel the order...I have not seen this spec at this price from Dell

Quick question.. Is the upgrade from ATI to NVIDIA worth going for.. Also 667 MHZ memory is tempting.. only problem is that with Vista Ultimate upgrade the price is rising..!! :?
#39
It's a matter of preference regarding the graphics card as neither are going to give great performance for the latest action games ..well not at high settings...personally I'd go for the 667 ram and the nvidia card..but that's just my choice....there are websites that give the ratings for laptop graphics cards so google may be your friend to assist your decision.
#40
I went for the Acer instead (just ordered it now). After me adding some extras the price on the Dell is comparable to the Acer with 5% cashback from Quidco (via Wollworths), and as I'm using it as a DTR I figured it better to pay a little more for the extra spec. Plus Acer have a cheap international warranty available.

Still, thanks for the info and advice guys, it is appreciated.
