This is a common misconception. MSG stands for monosodium glutamate. Glutamate is a naturally occuring amino acid. It's found it loads of everday foods such as ripe tomatoes, parmesan cheese, mushrooms. It's basically that 'meaty' taste you get from some foods. You'll know what I mean if you've ever eaten a packet of Steak McCoys or Chinese Takeaway food. The Japanese call this taste 'umami'.

MSG is chemically created glutamate that has been turned into a salt. However the body doesn't distinguish between naturally occuring glutamate and the chemically created MSG. Some people are allergic to MSG, but that means they're also allergic to natural glutamate.

There's been no solid evidence that MSG is bad for you in anyway. It's in loads of processed food, especially crisps. Manufacturers have been taking the MSG out of crisps due to public fears of MSG's safety, which personally annoys me. A packet of skips these days taste of hardly anything and I'm fairly sure it's because they've removed the MSG. Asians eat ramen noodles all the time, if MSG were truly bad for you, they'd all be ill because instant ramen contains a lot of MSG, you can see it when you pour out the flavouring packet. It's all the white crystals.

TL:DR MSG is absolutely fine to consume, UNLESS you happen to be allergic to glutamate which is a small majority. The body doesn't differentiate between chemically produced MSG or natural glutamate.

Thanks for the info! Didn't realise the health concerns were as unfounded as all that.
God these bring back memories when i was a kid. Thought they stopped making em. Heat added

Already bought two bags of these before this deal was up. Had two burgers and a sausage yesterday from the pack and they were very nice. The burgers have more beef than birds eye burgers as I checked, the beef content is 80%, and the sausages have 42% pork. So for all those hatters you should really check first and see for yourself before you comment. Heat added :)

That doesn't mean a great deal..80% beef means that 80% of the burger is from somewhere on a cow, they don't specify where on the cow. As mentioned above these will have a lot of mechanically reclaimed meat (mrm) in them. This includes connective tissue and arteries amongst other things that are basically left behind when all the good cuts are removed. That's how people got mad cow disease because they were using the spinal column too.

If you can still eat this crap after knowing what's in it then go for it.

That made me do a bit of (lazy) research : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creutzfeldt%E2%80%93Jakob_disease

Started reading it and thought **** i'm doomed, those symptoms seem quite familiar. Then I got to the bit that says 2 years and calmed down. Probably only got a touch of Alzheimers after all :{

I had a few of those symptoms in the early 90's when I used to go to raves. Especially the hallucinations and jerky movements.
One of the most fun bbq's I had was raining and I cooked sainsburys value sausages and economy burgers. With the bbq on low heat cook them for about 10-15 mins for burgers and 30 mins on top rail for sausages and they were pretty nice.
After a few pints I don't think anyone cares where the meat comes from!

My local ASDA didn't even answer the phone.
Shopping there is like being in a Shawn of the Dead film - probably explains why they didn't answer!
ther seems to some confusion on this player atm.......... i've been trackign at my local asda since last monday .. it was £50 .....on one section near the main tills .... it was also listed £69 near the tech area ...... i found the last copy near the ill area on sat 9 13th ) at £50 .... it scanned at £69 ....complained and got it for £50......... but in my awsda living a mile up the road it has been fixed at £69 all that time ....so not sure if its store specific or not .

been bought as an xmas prezzy ... so not bothered to much.. nice price
Was £50 in the Gosforth newcastle store earlier in the week but still £69 in the metrocentre store on the same day, went to pick one up in gosforth this morning and its back up to £69.
Billy Congo
FOUND THIS ON THE NET....................The BD550 doesn't have LG's Netcast and therefore will not be able to access anything from the web. Go here and have a look to see which of their Blu-ray players do have Netcast, although I'm not sure if that would automatically give you access to iPlayer.

hmmmmmmmmmmmm interesting but that is only one blokes natter.

Only the US versions of this player has those functions. I initially bought it thinking it had all this stuff and while I didn't expect to be able to connect to Netflix and other things, I was a little disappointed that I didn't have the youtube component. Alas, a lot of confusion arises regarding those features but they are absolutely not found on the UK models. No iPlayer, ethernet connectivity is purely for updates.

Noel Gallagher is one of the best writers of our (20-30 year olds) generation.

Tail end of the top 100 maybe... Most of their song lyrics are just interchangeable one- or two-line soundbites shoved together.

That said, can't deny Cigarettes & Alcohol sounded pretty great on a Friday / Saturday night! :p

It would do, Marc Bolan was a genius.

To be fair, I think Noel Gallagher has written some good songs however...

Not wanting to jump on the anti-Oasis bandwagon but the follow up to this - Be Here Now was probably one of the worst albums of the 90s. Even Noel himself said it was sh!t.

All of their albums since were mediocre at best.

Asda – Click and Collect

Returning Items to Asda

Asda UKGeorge offers a 100 day satisfaction guarantee and Asda will accept any returns within that time limit, offering a full refund or replacement. Note that this does not extend to hair accessories, pierced jewellery, mattresses or indoor and outdoor furniture.

To return an item at Asda, just follow these simple steps:

  1. The easiest way is to re-package your items and return them to a local Asda store. When re-packaging your items, follow the instructions on the delivery note and include that delivery note with your goods.
  2. Stick the Returns Label from that delivery note onto the outside of the parcel. It can also be printed out if you have lost the note.
  3. Take this package to the Click & Collect desk at your local Asda.

You can also return items to any Collect+ location across the UK. In this case, visit the Collect+ webpage to find your nearest Collect+ location and print out the returns label.

Now, simply stick the label to your package and take it to the Collect+ location.

Returns can also be sent directly to Asda. Package up your items, include the returns note, and send them to:

  • George
  • PO Box 9564
  • Newark
  • NG24 9GF
  • United Kingdom

For non-George products like appliances or cosmetics, Asda operates a 28-day returns guarantee. These items can be returned, but only if they are in a saleable condition.
