I'm very dubious about whether teaching preschool children to mess about with cookers and ovens could ever be a good thing or not...

I instantly thought the same, my 2 year old would love this but there's a slight risk she may confuse the playtime with the real thing and try and grab an oven door or worse still a saucepan on the hob...she's well trained not to go near the cooker anyhow, but not worth the risk in my book however slim

Well provided you teach your kids that real ovens are dangerous and then you parent them properly (like any parent would- in particular not let them play with your kitchen equipment) You could also try teaching them to cook with you so they have a good understanding.
That way they can enjoy hours of imaginary play with toy kitchens! Any preschool/reception class, that my children have attended have all had play kitchens with pans etc, as role play is so important.
In fact I am surprised that anyone would make this comment! But then maybe all people don't watch their young children in the same way... My toddler of 20 months knows that ovens are hot and is stands well back saying 'hot' and pointing. She would never be in a position to open the oven door etc as (annoying though it maybe at times!) she is fully supervised.

does this work? if so i will buy it for mum for christmas, don't think i can get one cheaper else where

Ive worked with children for over 20 years please give them more credit. They can tell the difference between role play and real life. As long as you tell them the real one can hurt them. Also if your child attends a childcare setting they are more than likely to have one in their home corner. I would have loved this for my daughter who enjoys baking and knows a real oven burns!!!

Yeah i don't let my son play with his toy cars in case he tries to play with the traffic, same as his cosy coupe car, i don't want him going driving mine :P

Wasn't there once a tool which reversed the Argos look up from you putting in the store to telling you which stores had the product ?

I'm sure I saw that once but ...... ?

given this is online only according to the text (so why you can reserve to collect is beyond me...) I'd say this has expired...

I bought my 20month daughter a toy kitchen like this for that exact reason.

Might as well start her off young and let her learn how to cook, clean the dishes etc.

As others have said, kids can tell the difference and in most pre-school playgroups/nurseries etc, they will have a toy kitchen anyway. In my LO's nursery they have real tools and wood to put in the vice and saw up, hammer nails into etc!

This is a great deal, would love this for my DD but unfortunately it's oos everywhere I've looked too. Does anyone know what Argos are like at replenishing stock? Is it likely to come back in before Christmas?

Oh shame on you! Do you just wrap your children up in cottonwool?
