not for text discussion like their original purpose,
it's now just another outlet for piracy via binary groups.

Oh here we go, this will no doubt end in piracy is killing the music industry. Whereas in fact crap music is killing the music industry, special thanks must go to Mr S. Cowell for that one! (_;)

Thanks, i kind of hoped that there was still a hardcore elite out there who refused to accept any of that modren day graphic malarkey and the facespace or whatever but i guess this makes more sense.

looking back i should have guessed that from the list of features in the OP.

Newsdemon are pretty rubbish, I used them for two months and files were often incomplete, speeds seemed to max out at 500kbps at various points, Astraweb seem to offer a much better service.
#12
he's right i got it
#13
cheers m8 its getting voted cold lol i made a mistake didnt realise you had to go through nzb
#14
HOT!

Would of stayed with newsdemon but the SSL cert they use does not verify with binreader (my fav client).
#15
I used Astraweb who are very good/reliable. Only once or twice I couldn't connect. News Demon any good?

Errrm, it's not a replacement for twitbook, it's a different kettle of fish entirely. Leaving aside most of the *.uk groups which appear to be infested with angry, ranting, children, it's a way to give/get information with a very low overhead - and to do it in such a way that you don't have to be online the whole time.
#20
This is a good alternative option... but beware of paying by some cards as they will charge for the conversion from dollars.

i usually get between 500-650kb/s

which is good considering i max my connection fully.

I have been using this for a few months now, got it when there was a £4.44 deal on. Ditched astraweb for it, rarely have issues and get a consistent 6Mb so a 700Mb file in less time than it takes to boil the kettle.
#23
seems a great deal to me. considering taking it up. wish people would read things a bit more before they vote cold :( anyway a mod or the OP of editing the original link to the correct one?

Do we HAVE to use the NewsRover? I have NewsLeecher sat doing nothing and I think I prefer it. Tried manually setting the account and I'm getting a download speed of 1.6kb/s
#29

Why am I getting only 2kb/s?

I've set up everything as required but still only getting nothing.

EDIT: Nevermind seems file dependent...

look for sabnzbd.. its a really good httpd server.

:-)
#32
Try changing your ports, your ISP might throttle certain traffic.
#33
i use ssl port 563 and max my 50meg everytime
#34
hmm sounds ok but i have used it and wasnt impressed and prefer astraweb, as for speeds max out at 1040kbs at home and 10000-7000 kbs at work, using port 23
#35
use port 80. makes a big difference on pipex, as they block other ports.
#36
I managed to get it to work. Tried a variety of different files, it just depends on their retention. Tried a 25 day old one : 2kb/s, and a 5 day old one: 2.7mb/s

Already not as good as Astraweb...
#37
2kb/s for 25 days old file is pretty awful. will try it later on tonight when i get home as i've just signed up
#38
well i just tried and got 576kb which is neally my max, so not sure what isp your on
#39
Don't get me wrong, could have been a problem with the file itself, but it's a download that is popular (not going to say what lol) and I would imagine that people would be constantly accessing the file, but it didn't work.

Might try another .nzb of it and see if it changes anything.
#40
@shango try port 80 and are you using all 50 connections
