Been doing a bit of research on laptops and saw this seems to be a good spec for good price, has a slightly enhanced gfx card which is what I've been looking for, everywhere else seems to be £350 upwards for a similar spec. Also for 2 days theres 10% tcb which also helps. Could I get your thoughts? Hope this will help someone.

just found if you go through eBay and use the code cebayargos everyone is talking about you could get it for £297.00

so what makes an i5 better then this? I checked a site earlier on and with my very little understanding the a9 beat an i5 6200 which cost more It had more cache, ran faster and higher GHz, as I say I'm not to big on tech but on paper this look better, so what am I missing? cheers

Link the site please, though if you are looking at raw figures and assuming that it'll run faster based on those then you need to look a bit deeper.

They aren't directly comparable as the architecture is different. Benchmarks aren't totally accurate but they give indication of what's going on under the thermal paste.

Passmark A9 2605 i5 6200u 3923

Even AMD don't really want the A9 to be compared with the i5, their comparison is with the A12 which finally starts to look reasonable.

You have ripped into the AMD but have still not actually given a reason why it is inferior. I have heard many times AMD processors pack a far greater punch in terms of gaming. I don't know much about it myself either but you seem to just be being negative for the sake of it.

The a9 is inferior to the i5, in most of the top benchmark sites. The new amd apu are decent value however and have a comparable integrated graphics card compared to the Intel hd integrated ones. Amd processors tend to have more cores but less power in each core. This often can be good for multi core supported applications which are CPU intense. However not every game can be supported this way. the new i5 skylake cpu are hyperthread compatible which reduces that amd advantage. Amd are decent CPUs but are cheaper and slower. I'm sure there are more serious cpu peeps on these forums but that's the gist of my know how on this.

For the same price bracket I would go for the i5 with ssd on e buyer which is going for £330

This is an A9- which is made by disabling half the hardware on AMD A12. It has only one module- two CPU threads, compared to 2/4 on A12 and i5. This one can do basic tasks like browsing and playing videos, but it's GPU is also cut down, and limited to low power use.

very good deal...keep in mind that amd processors run HOT! Might be a problem in the future! If money's not really a problem, you should check for an intel cpu laptop

http://www.ebuyer.com/760637-hp-250-g5-i5-laptop-x0q78es-x0q78es-abu It's £350 now but still decent: i5 skylake, ssd and 8gb. Screen quality mediocre though

thanks, ye sadly i did see alot of similar deals to this over black fri/cyber mon time... and indeed the screen and battery life put me off. that said, my a12 lenovo 310 model is pretty shocking too, battery wise under 3hrs... and screens stays dim when on battery despite changing advanced settings to max performace etc...bit weird, and very frustrating!

I looked at that for the gf, but the resolution and lack of dedicated GPU put me off. Sadly, I don't think I'll get anything with all the specs for under £400.
