I think this a great value full size Laptop , has a 4th Gen I5 processor and well specced for under £400 . Of course the real bonus is that you get a free 3 year warranty from John Lewis ,probably worth in excess of £120 ,so not to be sniffed at . Because of the JL warranty and the HP brand I would suggest this one bears serious consideration along with the other sub £400 I5 Laptops that have been posted recently. As usual I wont fill this space up with the specs -just click on the link .

Having had two HP laptops I would never buy one again.Well built&nicely designed, but the fans start at the least little thing. Both get incredibly hot under minor workloads, even a SSD and doubling the ram made no difference.

Same here spent a fortune on HP a while back not wanting the hassle of building my own PC. Things are packing up left right and centre!!! What a waste of money!

Have to agree with the other comments. The fan in my laptop packed up after a year. Will never buy HP again.

looks good for the money, ive also had a bad experience with a HP ,well Compaq actually but same company, the graphics and wifi cards failed then the screen cable and finally the power socket came loose and wouldn't charge.

This was years ago and im sure things have improved but i still puts me off.

Not voted either way as with the 3 year warranty it could be a great buy :)

I suppose we all have our favourite and hated brands . HP have always come out very well in reliability and build tables . I suppose the same anecdotes could be found for any make . Having the free 3 year John Lewis guarantee really makes the above isolated anecdotes of no real concern as it will get fixed or changed for the first 3 years . Who knows where Laptops will be in 3 years time :)

I agree about favs and hates, but I have neutral feelings, also in my experience nothing has ever gone wrong,it's that a fan constantly on and a boiling underside are not things my sony vaio ever had.Ironically it did die.Couldnt recommend HP due to spending hours listening to a fan blasting instead of music or films or even silence while surfing would have been nice.

I had a similar problem with my Fujitsu , bought a (nearly silent) Laptop cooling tray which works fine for me as I use it as a " coffee table top" rarely as a portable laptop . Sony Vaio s are great but I think you would be looking at the thick end of £600 for a Sony with this spec . And of course Sony are pulling out of the Laptop market early next year .
