Bought this for my fiance recently. Decent specs for the price but be warned that the display is absolutely rubbish - terrible viewing angles and colors. One of the worst displays I have ever seen.

Also the trackpad buttons are hard to press and are not very responsive. The entire laptop is definitely cheaply manufactured, as reflected in the price.

Was very disappointed with the display more than anything else but otherwise works great as an office / work laptop.

it's been £399 @ saveonlaptops for months. still a good buy. it is made very cheaply tho. and upgrading ram is a bit annoying as u have to split the entire case in half.

Though with 8gb already most won't need to.

Can't see it on that site tbh

When will manufacturers start to give us full HD and SSD drives?

Oh wait they have! have some heat my fine fellow.

Hot from me, looks a great bit of kit. I've just got one concern; the short description states:
Windows 10 Home
Full description states:
Software

Operating System: Windows 7 Professional 64 (available through downgrade rights from Windows 10 Pro 64)
(This system is preinstalled with Windows 7 Professional software and also comes with a license and media for Windows 10 Pro software. You may only use one version of the Windows software at a time. Switching between versions will require you to uninstall one version and install the other version. You must back up all data (files, photos, etc.) before uninstalling and installing operating systems to avoid loss of your data.)
Can anyone confirm that this definitely comes with Windows 7 Pro and can these still be upgraded to Windows 10 without cost?

Very good find. Have been looking for a 15'' laptop for a few days now and this is definitely the best for this price range.

I had 4mb in my 486, cost me £120 for another 4mb ram so I could play doom on it. that was circa 1994 though

That's a 14" laptop but it is a better deal if you are happy claiming cashback
#21
Cold , win 10 has been out for 15 months so why is it in this laptop.
Old,old stock.

As for the Tesco one at £289, sent it back as the colours and graphics are crap.
128 gb SSD is too small also.

TN panel with low colour space.

Thanks, I'll stay well clear.

remember cashback from HP is not like cashback from TCB/ Quidco

it is guaranteed to pay you if you meet the [easy to understand] conditions

as far as we know, nobody has yet been refused the cashback

I got it myself 3 times, easy peasy :)

I like people complaining about how how rubbish and poor quality a product is......for £400 what do you expect???

It's cheap for a reason...corners have been cut to a degree to get it to this price.

You won't see a state of the art laptop, i7, 1tb SSD With all singing and all dancing specs for £400

For the average user this laptop is a nice deal

good price, just brought leveno i3
128 ssd 4gb ram for £270 would have paid the extra £130 if a saw this

Indeed but people have rather unrealistic expectations, £400 for a laptop with these specs is pretty darned cheap it's just that there's so much really cheap crud out there (very basic Windows laptops from £150 ish) that people think something for £400 should be top of the line.

A bit contradictory that, for Windows 7 Pro downgrade rights the licence has to be a Windows 10 Pro. Any downgrade licence has always been an Pro version of Windows not the home version.

If it is supplied with Win10 media then you'd expect it to have a licence for Win10.......but I can't say for sure it would just work and whether there'd be any product activation issue when installing Win10. For the time being everyone can still use the 'assistive technologies' upgrade from to Win10 which works without issue.

What? £400 can get you a lot of laptop for your money. Either wait for a stonker of a deal or check Dell outlet regularly or other reputable sites/reputatable Ebay sellers.

I personally would never buy a HP or similar brand laptops for the reasons you stated about corners being cut.

This laptop is £439 on SaveOnLaptops. Link here
It has been £429-£439 for ages, not £399 as claimed bhy #richyjwill. There was a deal months ago for this laptop for £399 but that is well expired. That is a good deal! Heat added but the TN panel may put people off.

I presume you mean why doesn't this laptop come with Windows 10 preinstalled? It comes with the option for both and the necessary recovery media. It isn't an old Windows 7 machine that they are suggesting you can upgrade to Windows 10. Also the option to upgrade to Windows 10 for free has expired.

care to add some deals which are under £400???...i personally would not touch a laptop from ebay...reputatable seller or not...and Dell....loads of people complain about dell

Like everything...if you look after the item...it will last (not about electrical parts but casing etc) Ive got a pacard bell laptop which is pretty old and the only thing ive had to replace was the battery

This isn't a particularly cheap price for an i5 these days - I posted up one for less than this with a dedicated card recently and not that uncommon to get one hovering closer to £300.. HP really poor too, bought some for work recently and all had a problem with the wifi settings that took a while to resolve and lots mention online similar problems with other models.

It's certainly uncommon to see FHD with 8 GB ram and 256 GB SSD for less though

Also that relied on getting credit and expecting them to pay cashback and as you noted on your own thread that was with Very and they are woeful.

Yes they come with 2 sets of recovery media, one for each OS. And come on m5rcc, he asked a sensible question to which you knew the answer. I much prefer Windows 7 but I'm not sure I'd buy a new laptop with it on now if I had to make a choice between the two.

Sensible to him perhaps, not sensible in reality. Windows 10 is a disastrous joke.

Ouch! If Doom was solely responsible for the upgrade you wasted your money, good sir. As a DOS (protected mode) game it only required up to 640KB of the 1MB needed. Windows 3.1 on the other hand was a bit of a slug on anything less than 4MB.

The screen is TN. If it is that bad, people should not factor in a lot price for it just because it is FHD.
