Before you go on about how expensive the cartridges are, hear me out...
Epson = if you want colour, otherwise its total ****
I had an Epson printer before, although compatible cartridges are easy to find for them, I noticed a big drawback... You need all four cartridges (Black, and three colours ones) for the printer to work. As I mostly printed in Black and rarely used colour, even when I had full black and emptied one of the colour cartridges, I had to buy that particular colour else I will not be able to print .
And since I use colour rarely, while I have been using my black ink my colour cartridges have been drying up... I ended up spending way more money, and mostly getting annoyed with the whole system.
HP is great in that sense, it lets you use Black even if you don't have colour and this particular model is instant-on and quite speedy.
Its also worth noting that the compatibles might seem to work great in the beginning but slowly they deteriorate the printing quality and in my case, ruined the printer head for good.
UPDATE : found these : http://www.amazon.co.uk/Just-Refill-Black-Universal-Starter/dp/B0002ZOJU0/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1290287909&sr=8-4
You have to get your hands dirty, but it works out way cheaper than compatibles or any sort.
