is this a good buy then? really? cos i want a new laptop!
#2
it was £299 too..

Seems like a fairly good deal for someone on a budget. Its a fair spec for the dosh. Would probably get anyone by for general use & surfing and although it mght not be the most useful feature, I think the lightscribe is a bit of a bonus!
#4
im not gunna lie, the spec isnt the best, mainly due to the processor. But for £270 it seems like a more then resonable price IMHO.

Lightscribe is useless, unless you are willing to buy the lightscribe discs which are quite expensive, but DDR3, Win 7, HDMI and being made by HP make this worth it.
#6
decent price hot from me,,i paid a little more for my samsung with a similer spec from argos ebay but that was classed as a refurb even though the one i got was new.

battery life seems a bit short at an average 2.5 hours but maybe that's a realistic figure instead of a maximum which nobody can get even close to which some manufacturers like to put instead.

thanks, i use mine mainly for shopping general use...dont play games but on occasion use it connected to the tv for programs...dvds when on holidays..and i use it to edit my pics etc..
Is it ok? i have been looking at this 120711822839 but as you can tell i havent got a clue!

Extremely POOR processor, less RAM, smaller screen size, poor manufacturer, no HDMI and not to mention its a refurb. Avoid that laptop at all costs its simply not worth buying something like that.

"much better" ??? Why....

imo asus is as good a make as hp (many will say hp are poor infact)

cpu in the asus is actually very good - its just a cutdown i3 and as such comes with the intel hd graphics which again are a slight step up from this.

both machines come with 2gb ram - the hp machine doesn't have the 3rd GB fitted you have to do it yourself so for the price difference the ram can be boosted in the asus also.

hdd bigger in asus.

case is minor addition id rather have one i picked that suited me.

gigabit lan on asus if you want it.

looks like this one has bluetooth andf higher res webcam though which is a plus for it so i guess much better is a bit harsh.

Processor difference is very marginal, but yes i would agree the 6100 has slight advantage. HP also has a much better screen LED Backlight.

Why are you posting things like this, get a life? According to your graph you are saying that Acer is more reliable then a HP laptop??? Also the 3 year is just a projection... and it looks like you made this lame graph yourself. All laptops will "malfunction" but i personally never have had trouble with a HP or Compaq. Take your pointless graphs elsewhere.

No need to get angry, Source.. which takes it's information from 30,000 warranty claims by these people. I am only trying to give people the facts as this what this site is about...

I think you my friend are the one that needs to get a life!

Thank you for your contribution Ruscoe21. Next time I need useful advice, I shall just ask you for your personal experience with a single laptop, rather than statistical data collected over many years.

Firstly your data is about 2 years out of date. Also it does say HP sold 16 million laptops last year and is currently the world’s largest PC vendor. Shame those 16 million should all of bought Asus instead. Also 30,000 claims from 1 insurance company is a minute number of laptops sold world wide (probably).

Look at the data he is quoting. Seriously you are ignorrant.

I am looking at the data.

Just because HP sold 16 million units doesn't mean they have a higher build quality. What kind of logic is that?

I didnt say that, i said that all those 16 million people were wrong and should of listened to you and bigfoot and bought an ASUS.
#27
There's no wrong or right, it's about being able to understanding statistical data and make an informed decision based on people's past experiences.

By the way, you need to grow up and stop acting so childish. It's just a graph.

When have I said which laptop to buy I produced a graph, which people can use to make up their own minds, I have not told people this is a poor deal infact I voted hot as it is decent bang for your buck. I just like to put information out there so that people are not left ignorant there is no reason to believe the information if people are concerned enough they can look up more of the facts themselves. I just know that people who have little computer experience will blindly go for what looks like a hot deal, because they do not have the knowledge required to make an informed decision. This is why I included the graph because it is useful to give people lots of information and let them make up their own minds.

There is no reason to be angry I am only providing information!!
#29
yeh look at the dell figures and im not being funny but mine is a pile of carp. I may look at a warrranty extension anyway this time!

'statistics lie'

I'm not sure about lie, but they are certainly analysed incorrectly!

Unfortunately Ruscoe21 won't seem to accept the validity of such information, and in the process, been abusive to members of this friendly community.

Erm what have i said that is abusive??

Also your "stats" are not very good like i said. They are taken from 30,000 warranty claims from 1 insurance company, that im pretty sure that no one on this site has even ever heard of. Not to mention they are about 2 years out of date.
#34
I believe calling someone an idiot is abuse.

2 years isn't that long - the idea is that you are able to infer which companies produce the most reliable laptops. It's not gospel. Just alot of data put into image form to help you decide.

What can't you accept that?

I was being called childish for giving my opinion, and getting sarky comments from yellowputty. So take it how you will.

Also dont post misleading stats... If i didnt cause a fuss you wouldnt of posted the source to go along with that misleading graph. If you are going to take into account only 1 insurance companies dealings with laptop reliability then that is ignorrant.

Lightscribe is one of the worst technology 'features' out there.

Yes you need the discs which cost more, then you have to spend hours cleaning each disc. Sit there for ages while it prints (assuming it actually wants to print!).

Waste of time and money.

Firstly, I didn't post the statistics.

Secondly, I never suggested you should only use that graph, you use it in association with your own research and knowledge.

And me being ignorrant? I believe 'Pot Kettle Black' is suitable for this. You are ignorrant for totally ignoring a valid source of information.

You ridiculed me for giving my opinion in HP / Compaq. I merely pointed out the flaws in his graph, which you soo loved. Also by bigfoot posting his bias graph you are confusing the users of the site, as with one quick look people will think OMG! HP laptops are bad quality! i wont buy this laptop cos it will break.

You have not been ridiculed for your opinion, it was the attitude with which you decided to tell me that I was wrong that has caused the issue. It was not constructive I would have enjoyed to have a debate with you about the results, however, you feel it is neccesary to be angry and treating what I have been saying as a personal vendetta which it is clearly not.

Anyway i never said your graph is "WRONG" is just misleading, and annoying that you dont justify any of the data on it.
