Hmm i bought the Acer with the same spec for less than this price* but with a 320Gb hdd but less the bluetooth
*with a staff discount

The usual price for the Acer model (Aspire 5535) is £40 more for the larger drive (70GB more)
with same spec more or less.
i vote lukewarm :)

Does this ( Broadcom 802.11b/g ) indicate it includes "wireless networking"?

If you dont' NEED a laptop, get a desktop.

I have been down the "desktop replacement" route, and found the laptop very disappointing... and when it clapped out (all day everyday use!) it was too expensive to justify repair costs - with a desktop, bits are so cheap and easy to replace.
Also, do you really wwant to be looking at such as small screen all day? 19 to 22" monitors arew cheap as muck these days!

Equivalent money on a desktop is almost always going to give you more and faster, (and I found QUIETER too!! The laptop was forever running the fan at high speed) but of course still do your homework first.
(If I think right, was there not a good desktop deal for about 300 quid posted yesterday? Add on 100 quid for a Monitor, and you would be flying!) Typically I can't find the one I was thinking of, the search on here is annoying!)
Have a look at some of the options on http://www.dmxdimension.com/ I could see plenty of different desktops to be had for around the 400 quid mark, or 300 quid without monitor, but there are always things being posted on here often enough too, especially if you don't want a Dell.

As it stands, this machine looks good for the money, as a laptop!

PS: no refund on this model
#24
i bought one last week but with a smaller harddrivethey also did one with 3gb instead of 4gb but it comes with windows xp pro which can be upgraded to vista business (disk included) which my brother in-law has bought, both laptops appear to be good value for money and we are both happy with our purchases

Bad processor for a great machine.

bought one of these last month

lookin at that link, looks like I can get some free warranty???

or am I getting that wrong?

I bought one of these as xmas present for my daughter. It seemed like a good laptop but then failed after a couple of hours use when one of the keys became loose and fell off the keyboard. Keyboard does feel a bit fragile compared to old-style P2 laptops I'm more used to. OK you can click key back on but then just repeatedly just comes off again. Never had to return anything to ebuyer before but it is not an easy process, been trying and failing since 2nd Jan.

Just log a RMA or go via HP if you want another one
#30
Could someone please advise me this laptop or the samsung r505?
#31
"Just log an RMA", hmm easy enough but then I waited in all day and they never collected it, many calls to their 0845 number "there are 23 people ahead of you in the queue" and so on.
#32
I'm looking for a laptop for around £400, is this the best that £400 can get me?
#33
Bought one of these a week or so ago and so far quite happy with it. Not a desktop replacement, just something to surf/email and do anything I don't need the desktop for :)
#34
Bought this last week. You won't get better spec for the money. Also better than the samsung mentioned above
#35
I got one of these and it's the best buy on the net. You will not be dissapointed.
It does everything that most desktops can for this price will do and more since you can carry it around.
#36
I'm not the most tech savvy so some these questions will no doubt sound dumb to most of you!

Will this be compatable with mobile broadband? (Any advice on a decent mobile broadband service welcome!)

I would mainly use this for surfing the net, Microsoft Office and probably a bit of football manager, it looks the business so I'm guessin it could run all these?

Thank you in advance for any feedback
#37
It would handle all of that and more.
#38
Dam it I bought this only 2 days ago for £10 more. It seems ok alough I haven't had a lot of time to test it. Got to say I was impressed with ebuyer delivery. I ordered it at 7:20pm on Tuesday night Got it Wed morning at 11am. Now thats service..

This has already been posted once but was expired when it went up by £10, now they drop it back down a few days later. Nice marketing ploy as it gets it back on front page of UKHD.

Yes, the cpu is poor.

Lukewarm at best.

i bought this before christmas, mainly for use in work when im on nights (ie. now lol), and im very impressed with it, i use it for downloading/watching films play the odd football manager games on it, im not sure how good it would be for a gamer but its great for the average person who uses laptops for email, surfing, work stuff, i would choose this over a desktop for everyday use. plus if you did want to use it for games its still not too bad you would probably struggle to find a desktop as good for the price
