I am sure your kids won't need anything near to this power. It would seem more appropriate to get them a desktop, it would be easier to use for the younger ones and will be less prone to breaking. Trust me on this one, you'd be pulling your hair out if someone spills something into the laptop, or if the cable breaks (usually costs around £50 for a replacement adapter) or if the keys from the keyboard break off (more common than you might think). So have a look at dell, etc and I'm sure you can get a base unit for arond £150~200 and a fairly large monitor for less than £100 (i'm sure i've seen a few 22" monitors for about £90 kicking about in this site!)

Good deal but worrying that the spec seems to indicate it might be a bit of an issue if you want to upgrade the hard drive in the future. I hope other manufacturers do not follow this lead.

So is this laptop better than the similar spec'ed HP 6735s Laptop, AMD AthlonTM X2 Dual Core QL-60 1.9GHz, 4GB memory, 250GB HDD, DVD+-RW SMDL LightScribe writer, Webcam 15.4" WXGA (1280 x 800) WLAN Bluetooth Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium. http://www.ebuyer.com/product/149335

Would the Athlon chip be better than the Turion one? Can't really decide which one to go for. Any help appreciated.

Also noticed they do a XP Pro version but with 3GB ram - everything else the same..... yikes this is getting harder to choose.

Oh well.... went for the HP 6735s AMD Turion Ultra Dual Core ZM-82 one in then end Ebuyer were selling for £407. Fingers crossed I've made the right choice.

I think that you went for the right choice myself, might have 1gb less ram but in truth 32 bit operating systems can not really use anymore than 3gb plus for the extra £7 you get a better processor, draft N and a motherboard that can take up to 8gb RAM if you ever choose to updrade the os. Oh and do not forget that you can get hp's 3 year warranty for £20 with hp's £38 cash back offer

Here is the link if anyone wants it. http://www.ebuyer.com/product/148229/show_product_specifications?spectype=extended
