A friend was looking for a laptop for around the £300 barrier and i stumbled across this HP business notebook from Ebuyer.
Seems like a really good spec for the price and from a top manufacturer.

I have tried to list the specification taken from the HP website as Ebuyer's spec is very poorly listed.
it comes with 1GB of ram but ebuyer are giving 1GB of ram free with this but you have to fit it yourself which is done easily.

Theres also further info avail from HP's website

bear in mind this business model notebook comes in various specs so the website lists all hardware that can come in this model. it lists a draft N wireless adapter but i doubt very much it will come in this model.

It's also 12% more expensive ;)

and it doesnt add to the shopping basket

Jus to clear this up a little - this deal is OK. The HP linked to is after quidco (which I know is not guaranteed but nearly always works) means it costs £15 more so the comment about 12% is not likely to be true. Some peope have had issues adding the other HP laptop to the basket but they mention keep trying - I suspect its a browser issue. The other comment about possible cashback is NOT possible as this model is not listed otherwise this would be a hot deal.:-)
#7
Looks a brilliant deal.
2.5KG so not overweight.
HD3200 is about the same as Nvidea 8400M graphics so games capable.
Bluetooth + Webcam + hard disk anti-shock.

And the 2 X 2Ghz QL-62 CPU is a seriously upgraded QL-60.
It runs at a lower voltage and at 25 watts maximum TDP is the most efficient AMD dual core CPU at a decent speed.
The cheaper QL-60 has a TDP of 35 watts as do most of the AMD offerings.

The only spoiler for a few is Vista Basic but for anyone who likes to play a few games this packs a punch for the price.

This laptop has a better CPU and Video card to the HP in your post, the only difference really is yours has 1gb ram more, hdd is abit bigger, has a hmdi port and come with vista premium.

cpu and vga are things your not going to be changing in a laptop so in my opinion i think this is better for the price.

it just depends on what you want it for really.
#9
Looking on HP site, this should qualify for an extra £60 cashback, can anyone confirm this for me?

HP Cashback

If it does, this will be white hot!
#11

The Radeon HD 3200 is significantly better than the Intel GMA 4500 but then the 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo is faster than the AMD QL-62.

However, the AMD version also comes with HyperTransport memory. Does anyone know how much performance improvement this offers?
#12
the link above is for a pentium and not core 2 duo incase you didn't realise

well i am torn between the 319.98 ebuyer one and the one on the link

which cpu is better the Processor type Intel® Pentium® dual core processor T3200
Processor speed 2 GHz

or

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor for Notebook PCs QL-62 (2.0-GHz, 2 x 512-KB L2 cache).

the AMD is much better
check this cpu comparison chart

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Processors-Benchmarklist.2436.0.html

it doesnt list the QL-62 but it lits the QL-60 which is better than the T3200 and the QL-62 is alot better than the QL-60.
#14
ok thanks...
#15
ordered this one in the end!

personally it should be alot hotter than it currently is

thanks

I think if you look at the benchmark scores that exist in that list you'll see that the Dual Core (I did mean Dual Core) is better. You have to compare the T2410 (which is slightly slower than the T3200) with the QL-60 (which is slightly slower than the QL-62). The T3200 is as I understand it based on the Core 2 Duo just with less cache.

I think the better graphics of this AMD one would swing it for me.
#17
interesting note that the QL-62 is quoted in most places including AMD as having a TDP of 25 watts.
However cpu-world lists it as 35 watts. Does not preclude laptop from being a very good buy.
http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/K8/AMD-Athlon%2064%20X2%20QL-62%20-%20AMQL62DAM22GG.html

However the QL60 came out in June with the QL62 being almost a brand new release.
Production improvements probably

I shouldnt have really used that link as a guide as it doesnt really prove anything, it doesnt list the bench scores for the T3200 or even list the QL-62, It lists the CPU's in order of speed and then peoples scores. The scroes for the T2410 and the QL-60 are only 1 persons score from the various testing programs and the other hardware in their computers will have an effect on that score. My bad.
#19
well i have canceled this one now

and i am still stuck on what to go for!

i am still wondering which is the better cpu the AMd QL-62 or the dual core processor pentium T3200

as i know all about the other specs and can decide from them, but the cpu i don't know which is the better one
#20
Probably the T3200 will win in more tests than the AMD. Except games of course.

I think Tesco have a real Core 2 Duo 2.2Ghz at £350.
Minus the Tesco £13 voucher if there plus Quidco makes it ok too.

http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/280300/tesco-direct-vouchers-13-or-9-off-a

Speed is only 1 part of the equation. Get the one with the important features you need.
This shows speed tests quite well

cheers, but isn't acer supposed to be rubbish build quality or something like that

bottom end of the market!
#22
hmm, i think this deal should get hotter

am i right in thinking you get a Free HP Care Pack with this laptop?

3yr warranty
which is £38

Wrong unfortunately - it is only for 2 particular 6735s configurations.

As I said before what would swing it for me is the 3D card. The AMD/ATI HD3200 is quite a bit better than the Intel GMA 4500.

if you still want this laptop microwarehouse have it in stock

http://www.microwarehouse.co.uk/catalogue/item/HPN0153

£338.65 deilvered (2-3 business days), + quidco 5% makes it £321.71

it has 1GB less ram but it comes with Vista Business and Windows XP Pro.

Purchase a 2GB DDR2 PC6400 SODIMM stick of ram from play.com for £14.99

http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/5748690/PNY-PC6400-2GB-800MHz-DDR2-200pin-SoDIMM-Laptop-Memory/Product.html

takes it upto 3GB of ram which should be plenty.

total cost after Quidco £336.70.

i would say thats a better deal than the origional i posted plus you get XP aswell if your not a fan of Vista.
#26
or same as above (incl 3GB ram without upgrading yourself and be covered by manufactures warrnty) but with 250GB hdd for £365.71 (deilvered 2-3 business days) + 5% quidco takes it down to £347.42

http://www.microwarehouse.co.uk/catalogue/item/HPN0161

it says 0 in stock, ordered on request though.
#27
cheers for that...

do you know much about this company?
#28
One in stock at the moment at ebuyer :)

I went for the microwarehouse offer of 3Gb and a 250Gb hard drive for an extra £30 (after quidco, £15.31 tracked already) but not sure how long it will take to arrive....

It was deliberating for ages between this one and the T3200 one from the HP site but I think the CPU and the graphics card is marginally better on this version, plus memory slots are upgradeable to more than 3Gb so that swung it for me :whistling:
#29
let me know how it works out jazz
#30
its back in stock at ebuyer
#31
just ordered this and it is staying ordered

it comes with 1gb of ram and comes with an extra gig of ram...

i take it there is only 2x memory slots on this,? and if i wanted to upgrade the ram i will have to basically replace one of the sticks, but then it wouldn't be running at dual channel ?

is the 2gb ram, with the video memory shared going to be enough to run vista on this machine?

i would mainly be using it for the internet, but obviously would like it as quick as possible for when i do use it for scanning virus's etc
#32
I think I may also go for the ebuyer model now... just logged into microwarehouse and the order status says:
Product Date Expected
HP 6735S ATHLON QL-62 15.4" 3GB 250GB VISTA DWNGRD XP DVD+/-RW (HPN0161) 30/01/2009

and I don't really want to have to wait until the end of January for it to arrive!

Ebuyer does only have a 250Gb hard drive which is a shame but not a huge problem. I would probably do as suggested and get an additional 2Gb stick (maybe 2) and replace the RAM since I've found on my current laptop running Vista Ultimate that with just 2Gb it's a bit sluggish.
The cost would then be roughly the same just with 4gb of RAM and a smaller HDD
#33
Loads in stock, this should be unexpired...
#34
techmob
cheers for that...

Microwarehouse and Macwarehouse are basically PC World Business, part of the Dixons stores group. They seem to have there heads screwed on compared to pcw currys etc from previous experience.
#35
You can also extend the warranty to 3 years (pickup and return) for a stupidly low price of £40.50 using code HPXMAS08 on the HP website which also gives you free deilvery. Also go through Quidco for an extra 8% making it £37.26

http://h41306.www4.hp.com/item?SID=dd2afc66e11c98f26005740169bed8564fc:1223&sku=UK707E

there is also loads of other different warranty types you can purchase for this model such as next business day onsite repair at the following link @ HP, remember to use the above code for 10% off and quidco ;-)

http://h41306.www4.hp.com/itemAccessories?SID=dd2afc66e11c98f26005740169bed8564fc:1223&sku=KU221ET

some of the warrantys are repeated twice, at the end of the product code will be A or E
E means its electronic and i think they just email you to register online
A means its an actual pack that gets posted out to you.
#36
shame it doesnt give you an extra 3 years ontop of the orignal 1 year warranty

so would this cover all repair costs etc...

i would get this straight away if it gave me my normal 1 year warranty + 3 years warranty on top...

i know i know, i am greedy!
#37
it covers all repair costs, except for accidental damage/neglect etc.

but if you want acc-dam cover u would need to choose that type of care pack
#38
hmm tempting...

i would like to know the full list of what it covers

anyone else going to go for this?
#39
Anyone found out what megapixel rating the webcam is?
#40
apparently the webcam has a resolution of 640x480 max

so would that make it a 0.3
