Be very careful when you buy from Dabs.com (or BT.Shop). Make sure you only pay with a credit card which offers fraud protection. Only pay through Dabs checkout (not via Paypal or Google). Read the previous Dabs.com threads here on HotUK for more info.

1gb will do it but.. obviously 2gb is better:-D Although I usually stop reading laptop deals as soon as I see celeron:whistling:

I ordered a laptop from Dabs on Wednesday. All the order states is ''awaiting processing'. Payment has not been taken & it is in stock. Previous orders have been delivered in under 48 hours.
Since BT have taken over their service has gone to pot..
Amtrack- One of the the delivery companies Dabs use has gone into administration.
I have sent an email without reply, despite their claimed response time is 6 hours.
I'm gonna give them till Monday when i will be cancelling my order & will go elsewhere. I have googled them and have found I am not the only customer who has been left in limbo like this

Don't wait too long. I claimed my money back through my credit card. They contact Dabs.com by telephone (which we customers can't do). I had my money returned within two days after sending my claim to Barclays (my credit card)

You will find quite a number of past comments with complains, alternatively google.

There is no cashback on this deal!

Could you explain?
Yes you are correct. According to: http://h40059.www4.hp.com/morepc/redemption2.html#red
This item's code is not included (53NDTB). Thanks for that as I was just about to order one. Not worth it without the cashback.
#12
I've expired this deal at least until I can check whether this model is eligible for HP cashback, as advertised by Dabs. I've had decent enough service from Dabs in the past, but haven't dealt with them in recent months. Make up your own minds whether problems alluded to by others above amount to anything more than the unfortunate but inevitable percentage experienced by any large business.
#13
Seems to be on the list so cashback should be fine. It's bottom of list.
http://h40059.www4.hp.com/morepc/redemption2.html#red

Also available from dabs is the 53NFWS which is £30 more but has 2gb of ram and 160gb HD.

But if you check the codes it does not list the 53NDTB which is the code for the one Dabs has available.
Only lists 53NDWS / 53NFWS / 53NGWS

The item with 2Gb of ram is actually coded 53NFTB. Where did you get 53NFWS?

Dabs site seems to have been updated as it now shows 53NDWS / 53NFWS for the two notebooks mentioned in the deal - these are listed as qualifying for £50 rebate.

DEAL ON (it seems) :)

Not for me. Dabs still shows code 53NDTB

The deal is at Dabs, not BT shop.

If you click the Go to deal button at the top of this page you will see that the code shown is 53NDWS.

The above is what I am stil getting. The quicklinx: 53NDTB. Is this the code we are talking about and if not then where is it?

Interesting. I have gone 'Tools' and deleted all internet history, and on going back to Dabs the code has now changed. What a fecking carry on. Anyway, now looks good to go, so thanks for help.
#23
I also do not see the eligible model numbers, just 53NDQ2 & 53NFQ2.

Having read the above, if you go direct to the site and don't click on the deal link the codes do indeed change,.

Yeah, I might have clicked the link earlier I can't remember.

Okay, going back to the deal. Can anyone who has this laptop confirm it has a wireless card installed. It is listed as having Bluetooth connnectivity but not anything about 802.11.
#27
No branded laptop sold in 2008 is going to ship without wireless.

Thanks for the reply, and that is what I was thinking. However, there is absolutely no mention of it in the item description. Also on checking the HP website, and looking at the model manual, it does identify that wireless and/or bluetooth is model specific.

Yes it doe's http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/uk/en/sm/WF06b/321957-321957-64295-89315-89315-3442856-3561198.html

This link is to a core 2 duo not the celeron in the deal. It also has a bigger HD, vista business (not premium) and a higher screen resolution. Basically, the same model number but a different version. If that is the case then there is still no idea if it has wireless.

This link does appear to indicate that it is and/or.
"Intel PRO/Wireless 802.11a/b/g/draft-n, a/b/g, b/g, Broadcom 802.11a/b/g, b/g and/or Bluetooth® 2.0"

Seems to me that the advertised one has only bluetooth.
#33
The spec at BT Shop definitely includes wireless:

http://www.shop.bt.com/productview.aspx?Quicklinx=53ND#specifications

Seems a pretty good deal, £260 for a 17" laptop with Vista premium, or £290 with 2Gb memory.

Did you get to the bottom of whether the one with 2GB RAM had a wireless card or not?
banned#35
No, gave up. Contacted Dabs and they give give me absolutely no information. I am not even convinced it is eligible for the cashback.
#36
Has anyone received the 2GB RAM model yet? I'd like to order for my son for Xmas but only if it is definitely compatible with my wireless network. The 1GB option clearly states wireless but strangely the 2GB one only mentions Bluetooth. Can anyone confirm if the 2GB is wireless? Many thanks!!
#37
Don't worry, looks like only the 1GB is available now! Is this still a good purchase for a 12 year old who likes to surf, download music and use MSN?
