I brought a belkin powered ipod dock with 4 usb 2 ports of the same price recently.

What advantage does the mains give this? Does it mean you can charge without turning on the computer etc,? And can it be used without the mains as a normal hub?

Or does the extra power just allow more power hungry devices be plugged in?

Just bought this! For me it means when I plug an external hard drive, mouse etc into my lappy, I only have to use one USB port. Normal unpowered hubs draw their power from the USB socket it's connected to and so will be unable to power any devices where the total power requirement is more than the output of that one socket (ie 500mA).

Brill - was going to order an unbranded one from DealExtreme yesterday...glad I waited!

I thought that might be the case.

Is it possible to use it as a normal hub (i,e, not plug into the mains) or charge devices from it when just plugged into the mains?

wow ... good price that. Perfect as an extra charging unit for the USB devices (Phone, iPods etc) ... when I use all my ports on home PC to charge stuff it reboots .. guess it just draws too much juice for mobo to handle.

This helps big time...

One thing tho, this bigpockets company .. I not heard of them before ... any good?

bought 3 from boffer and sold one to friend and one on amazon, remaining with one and making profit

Should be able to use as a normal hub. Most unpowered hubs have a power input, but just don't supply the adaptor. Don't know about charging devices though.

I use a similar type of hub like this to charge my phone, increase the number of usb slots for my ps3 and also charging my ipod. If your wanting to use this away from a desktop pc then the power supply is a handy thing to have. It alows me to connect a 500gb hard drive (to view movies and lister to music)to my console along with charger cables for my ps3 controllers, my eye cam and a flash drive whereas the hard drive doesnt show up on my ps3 when i connect a non powered usb hub.

Thank You:thumbsup:

#25

Had one in the basket but took too long to decide and then got the message sold out :(

I bought one of these to get free delivery on another item (saving £3.95) And it came as a nice surprise !!!

It's compact as heck, ( way smaller then the photo suggests) with "collapsable" prongs, international attachments, USB cable and it's "HP" branded.

I paid, and it was sold out before I could HUKD' it

Nice.
