  Possibly but entirely dependant on how loud it is. If the PSU is loud then that would need replacing at a cost, if the processor fan is noisy another cost for replacement and if there are any case fans then these will likely need replacement too. Starts to get expensive for that use, as these are unlikely to be set up for 'silent running' and when you consider the base price it starts to make less sense spending more money on the machine. However for an overall deal it seems pretty sound. My money on the HTPC front would be one of the microservers by HP. Still voting hot however as if you need a desktop this is pretty fast for everything included in the tower to get going.

  I have dc7900sff and hardly you can hear it, with fan idle set to low.
  All you need to make it more versatile is low profile gfx with hardware decoding/deblocking for HD movies.
