Standard warning against buying HP; you cannot get compatible ink cartridges for most HP printers - the 300 is included amongst these.

Look to be shelling out £40-50 every time you want new ink (300XL).
Also as the colour cartridges are combined, you end up throwing away ink for the lesser-used colours.

Just a note, I attempted to buy one of these from Amazon. I'm sure they are very good printers but I don't know how tough they are or reliable. First one arrived faulty (no obvious sign of damage to the box), sent back for a replacement, second one arrived also faulty, again with no external damage to box/packaging. Don't know if they were damaged in transit or if the build quality is iffy - first printer wouldn't feed paper properly and kept throwing out paper jam errors, and the second one had a problem with the ink carriage not moving properly. Ended up getting a refund and bought a better printer. Personally, I cannot recommend this printer.

Hi Jawa,

Does it make that much difference that the colours are combined?

My Brother printer has one Black and 3 Colour, despite being used exclusively for text, all the ink is used very quickly meaning that when one cartridge is finished the printer will not work.

To purchase all 4 is around £57 for official ink!

Got one of these for £35 from Comet off here a couple of months back.Amazing! Just stuck it in the cupboard out of the way . '7 Day Shop' is the kiddie for all your printing needs. Used loads by the bairns and replaced the ink once for about £15 for a colour/black combo pack

Good info; their compats. look like remanufactured HP cartridges so compatability should be assured.
They also claim to fill them with 14ml of ink - 2ml more than official (~£25) HP 300XL cartridges!

Might give these a whirl next time I need ink.
Still fairly expensive though; as is the case with all ink that has the printer head built into the cartridge. Also increases the likelyhood of lowered print quality.

If you click the ink link it says 500 extra points when you buy 2 selected inks and £5 off when bought with a printer.

Add the 2 inks and the printer to your basket then go thru the ordering process select home delivery and add the £10 off code then go up to confirm payment point you should get a order summary showing what your order costs and what points your getting.
#25
Oh you enter the code at the final check out, got it, thanks!

for those who have bought one of these printers:

you may notice that the Scan button says 'USB ONLY' - this is not necessarily true. though wireless scanning directly from the printer's control panel is not supported, it is possible to initiate a wireless scan from your computer (on Windows, hit Start > All Programs > Windows Fax & Scan) ;)

This is a Which? Best Buy at £44

This HP is designed for office use - it prints text reasonably well and makes a good job of colour spreadsheets, but it's the good performance of the copier function that raises this model above many other home-office type printers.

This printer has wi-fi and USB connectivity - a USB cable is included in the box. It doesn't have PictBridge or memory card slots though, so you can't print from camera or memory card without using your computer.

It doesn't have a preview screen - any images will need to be previewed on your computer.

Text print quality is pretty good if a little light and printed spreadsheets look sharp. For an office printer it's reasonable for printing photos too.

Black text pages are printed at a rate of 6.8 pages per minute which is reasonable and the print rate only slows a little if a splash of colour is added. However, there's no auto-duplexing, so you can't set the printer up to print on both sides of a page.

An A4 photo takes almost 5 minutes to print which is fairly slow, so if you mainly want to print photos, this model probably isn't the best choice.

The scanner is competent but we felt scanned magazine pages looked a little light and scanned photos, conversely, appeared a little dark.

The copier function is easy to use and produces sharp black text and colour copies. Mono copies aren't the quickest, taking just over 30 seconds to come through, but you only need to wait a few seconds longer for a colour copy - making these fairly quick compared with other all-in-ones. However, the copier scans the document for each copy, so, if you're printing multiple numbers of the same page, this may mean it takes a bit longer than printers that only scan the page once.

It takes combined colour cartridges - if one colour runs you'll be replacing all three when you buy a new cartridge which can be wasteful. However, high capacity (XL) cartridges are available for this printer, which should help you save a bit on running costs if you print frequently.

If one colour or the black ink runs out, you can continue to print using the remaining inks - useful if an ink runs out when you desperately need to print something.

The printer uses 1.8W in idle and 0.7W in standby which is reasonable, but, for best power saving, switch the printer off when it's not in use.

Pros: Good for printing colour spreadsheets, pretty good text prints and good copier quality

Cons: No auto-duplexing, scans page for each copy

Just ordered mine so the voucher code is still working. Thanks for the heads-up.
I initially had trouble getting the final price down to £39.96 until I twigged that I was opting for in-store pick-up. You have to choose home delivery for the £10-off code to work. It seems it's the £5 delivery charge that keeps the total over £50 - even though it then gets taken off again to give you free delivery! Crazy system and a bit of a bummer as I now have to hope the delivery driver will leave it with a neighbour.

NB: for the extra 500 points one must purchase TWO inks. the extra points will then be added automatically.
