Seems great value.

From what I could tell this laptop was £699.99 in Oct 2007. It was reduced to £499 in January 08 sales I think. Great deal Good Luck!

Refurb code (£10 off) does work (see Thread) ! May be an extra 3.5% with Top cash too.

This may explain it. I got the code from a mail sent by Dixons yesterday. This looks like quite a good multimedia meachine with Remote control and TV even?

Good points
It looks really stylish, it has so many features and a excellent spec for the price. Pefect for most people.
Bad points
The battery hardly lasts an hour but I rarely need to use it so its not a big deal for me. The mouse pad sometimes is realy slow or just doesn't work. I think it might just be me and the way i use it. Also the shift key is tiny.

Good points
Due to problems setting up wireless I have only just started to use the computer. However, I find the screen size good and touch pad off switch very useful.
Bad points
No recovery disc and no manual (the latter very frustrating)

Good points
Design and look
Bad points
The screen keep crashing and giving the message of "display ... failure, succesfully recovered" I tested using the TV in UK and then took it with me abroad. I couldnt watch any thing in Turkey and I am told that I have to do a master reset. What is the point of settings option for downloading the tv guide for different locations then? Microsoft office did not have a licence, I had to buy Norton did not have any licence but was put there to ask me for a licence key!!!

Good points
Its a great looking super fast wide screen with the much slicker and better Windows Vista operating system, its super easy to use and just brill, would recommend to anyone, although due to the size probably not so suitable for the more mobile user.
Bad points
only negatives are that the battery life could be a little longer, it generally only lasts about three hours before needing a charge. Also the machine is a little on the heavy side but thats ok when you take into account the size.

It is a refurb though.

>> It is a refurb though.

neighbour got a similar refurb HP model (9702) a few months back. hard drive drive died within a week. actually corrupted the whole C partition after first boot, had to recover using D, then it went completely soon after.

functionally, it's just ok. The screen is *very* reflective (more so than other glossy/glass type screens), the mouse buttons are horribly big and weak seeming, and the right shift key is tiny (small square type, not the usual long one). that alone would put me off buying this myself, really, a decent shift key is a must when typing. go to PC World and try out a similar HP model to see what you think.

Hot - Ordered - dont see big deal with a refurb - its got 12 months warranty = only same as buying ex display or from the likes of Dell outlet.

Careful what you assume you'll get here. There appear to have been several different models of this, not all with Geforce graphics. No mention of gfx on the site so perhaps they have an assortment.
#21
currys and pcworld also have these.

wonder if there are any codes for them as i cant find any.

There's an Acer one for £270 at Dixons with 160GB HDD. See 'deal of the day' on the dixons website.

Well the reason why this laptop was not around 600 recently is because the 1s the are around are amd turion not athlon, which makes a big differene, but still great laptop for 300 no doubt about it so therefore heat added :)

the above comment is suspect........

huh ? the athlon is a desktop CPU, the turion is the mobile version of it, lower power consumption etc............

We should also remember that the X2 is a 64-bit chip (the Core Duo is 32-bit) and will, in theory, wipe the floor with Intel Core Duo when running alongside a 64-bit operating system such as Windows Vista.

also;

>>Intel Core Duo T2330 Vs AMD Turion 64 X2 TK-55 --- which is faster / better ?

>>The T2330 is actually a Pentium Dual Core. Performance will be pretty similar and the Pentium might be a bit cooler. If they're eqal price take the Pentium, if the AMD is cheaper I'd take that

I cannot get the refurb10 voucher to work even though the item meets all the necessary requirements to get £10 off.

If the voucher doesn't work then it may be worth getting it through Currys as you can return it to a store instead of paying £7.99 for Dixons to collect it if you change your mind.
#39
what is the remote control used for?
#40
Just ordered one of these and the code worked after a few attempts
Might have used lower case the sucessful time - cant remember.
Thanks Dr Pete, Ive been looking for a 17" laptop for a while and missed out on a few deals.
You can put that price back to £289.99!
