Yep this is not for gaming and has no monitor its purely for storage & multi media, great for auto backup of desktops and laptops in a home environment. Not sure why you would want a faster processor.

Please don't vote cold because you don't know what it is or does.

It's a decent enough price for this hardware solution, as HP have pretty much pioneered the market for hardware solutions for Windows Home Server.

I'll see if I can add in some links later on this afternoon.

Cheers, Scotty Boy!

I have an earlier version of this and it is the best out-of-the-box solution there is for what it does. Really is a good price!!

If you want a ready built MS Home Server box then sure, but if you're PC assembly aware then you could surely BUILD one of a better spec for significantly less

MS Home Server OEM c65
Celeron 2.2 c35
2GB RAM c25
1TB c55

Motherboard say 25-35
Case/PSU say 50 (ie aim for a quiet one)
Lightscribe DVD-R c20

Think that's all you'd need to match this box = c£100 less, and could eg up to 1.5TB for only c£15 more.

Alternatively do what I'm planning to do and use bits from old PCs and start with the 120 day trial of MS Home Server. The minimum requirements for MS HS are low - it is just a file server really/

...it is just a file server really

It's not just a file server - it can do a lot more additional functions, including media streaming, quite well and for those who don't have a huge amount of technical skills the familiar Windows GUI is very handy to work with.

Cheers, Scotty Boy!

Be careful with the 90 day trial, you can't upgrade from it to th efull version - you have to install from scratch

I live two doors away from the inlaws, if the internet so much as flickers there's a message on my answer phone when I get back from work. I use RDP for correcting OS issues which you can use to remote administer the HP EX490, now if I could just do the same to the cable box I would be laughing.

Great post - I have been researching the options and was weighing up between this and a drobo with drobo share...with the 10% and quidco, it makes it a no brainer, £356 with 1tb of storage already included is a great deal IMO. Thanks very much, heat and rep added.

I did this and they cancelled my order. Did anyone get theirs?

Did they state why the order was cancelled? Have you checked to see if the funds were taken off of the card you used to purchase it with?

It was weird. They said it was for payment reasons - except that the exact amount is pending on my card right now and has been for two days, so the card details were right, and so were the address details. Very weird.

if you can still get one on this deal it works out to be a lot cheaper around £336

I got it by for £343 ish using the [email protected] login on the employees login page. Bear in mind i had trouble adding it to my basket in IE8 and had to use safari. They wont have stock now till the 19th this month so they may have actually sold them all

Not sure many people are still reading this thread but just been onto the company doing the Hampers and spoke to Vicky who said they had now decided to give £50 MS vouchers instead of the Hampers. We should all get them in the next two weeks in the post.
