Not true.
I take it you're not talking from personal experience because I am.

So am I and neither of you is really "wrong". For a light user (like my parents who only use internet, mail, Word) 1GB is enough for Vista - but only just. If you start using several applications at once or do a lot of image or video manipulation you will soon find 1GB is not enough. I find I need 2GB as does my daughter. A RAM upgrade to 2GB shouldn't be very expensive anyway.

P.S. A lady at Staples in Coventry just told me that there are none at this store and by the looks of it, none anywhere else apart from Exeter!

Still full price in Aberdeen

Any signage relating to the Laptop will still say the full price- the low price is only to be found on flyers at the front of the store, and then when it is scanned through the tills. It's going back up to £350 after Tuesday, I'm told.

None at Crawley or Horsham

Just spoke on the phone to a very helpful guy in Liverpool shaw st. He checked their system but said they had all sold out in last few days and confirmed 3 other stores in Merseyside had all sold out, inc. Southport:x

1GB of ram on vista = a big no no!

I would use the following guide to optimise: http://www.blackviper.com/WinVista/servicecfg.htm

I have 4GB of 1066MHz ram installed on my laptop yet still find vista starts up pretty slow.
The min I would go for on vista is 2GB.

If you want to keep 1GB go for XP instead.

The reason it starts up slow has nothing to do with the memory on board. In fact the more memory you have the longer it will take as all the memory has to be initialised on startup, even though we are talking milliseconds these days.

Try cutting down on all the unnnecessary services on [email protected] installed by the manufacturer.

Glad to hear some of you got it :) The offer is actually "Laptops from £197" so I'm not surprised to hear there's at least one more available at that price.
