Also you can get another £100 pounds of if you trade in ANY old working laptop.

Do you have a link for that? I looked and could only see reference to Trade-in for Workstations - http://h41201.www4.hp.com/tradein/uk/en/promotions/Desktops-Notebooks/

Using voucher code- HPMAY10 for 10% off. Plus free digital headset

This is the trade in deal, pretty good if you got an old duffer laying around:thumbsup:

And this model is included in the list.

£300 with the trade in is a ridiculously good deal for this specification. Unfortunately I'm a Mac guy so I can't be buying a Windoze machine. :) Voted hot though!

I`d make sure you buy an extended warranty,a lot of people have been hung out to dry with the dv9000.Mine cost £650 in Feb 2008.

i wouldnt recommend anyone to buy a HP laptop, they have an inherent problem of overheating the grahics chip which melts into th motherbord after about 13 months. Dont say you werent warned and their helpline for warranty is TERRIBLE. check forums ad yo'll see what i mean. I owned one and never again!

How does this compare to the Sony Vaio EB1E0E and Acer Aspire 5740? Can't make my mind up !!
#13
Excellent find -

Could not resist this kind of deal - so got one using the 10% voucher and the trade in offer for my crummy old IBM Thinkpad.

About the only fault I could find was no Bluetooth (which is no realy problem). At the end of the day; getting a laptop with these specs for a little over £300 is awesome.

Heat and rep added!

Funny - I was looking at the Acer 5740 just before I got this. There isn't a lot in it really. This has a bigger (and faster) hard drive than I saw on the Acer and this was miles cheaper than the Acer (using these deals) so I went for this one.

I think the "Intel HD Graphics" chip on this machine is also slightly better than the Acers Intel GMA 4500MHD (source http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/intel-clarkdale-core-i5-661,2514-4.html)

I currently have a Sony Vaio FS315M (4 years old) what are my chances of cleaning it up to pass on to my 12yr old daughter? Or shall I just take the £75 trade in and put it towards a new netbook for her??
#16
sounds like a cracking deal under £300 providing get all discounts and trade in my million year old sony viao. hot!
#17
Do you think they will part ex a custom built PC which has a different brand base, monitor, keyboard and mouse??

Will Quidco also work??

Made my mind up and ordered. Could have had for a similar price from Comet with discount code and cashback but the trade in swung it for me.

Many thanks.

Very good price for this model. I remember looking at these when they where £450 which seemed good value at the time, but £399 is well and truly a bargain. Its the best i3 laptop deal yet given the specs, and it gets even better if you can trade in an older machine and use quidco, bringing the price under the £300 mark. Any old laptop or PC will get you the £100, just needs to be working and complete with all parts and restore disks. They even give you £10-£15 for postage.

Be warned though although these G62s look nice in the pictures, in person I found the design a little disappointing. Just felt like a cheap plastic imitation of a MBP, but still can't grumble considering the price.

Depends - how much do you love your daughter? I'm sure deep down you think she deserves a new one....
#21
I guess you would have to buy today to get it for £399 though given the 10% voucher is only valid this month.

+1 , can't say for this model , which is an excellent price btw, but HP do seem to have failures probably because they run hot.
I frequently have to clean out daughters HP which , by poor design, gets clogged with dust etc in the fan and vent channels.

Did this laptop have one of the Nvidia 8600 chips in it by any chance?
#24
Does this have HDMI?

Nope, it's got Intel integrated graphics. From what I remember the i3 features the graphics chip on the CPU.

Yeah, also has VGA.

so if i buy the laptop first i get the confirmation email of valuation.. then i order the £449 laptop..
Then i send my old laptop.. when they recieve it they then take the money out of my account right??

What happens if my old laptop they cannot accept? do i then have to pay the full £449?

You pay £404.10 with the discount code then you claim the cashback seperately.

their consumer lines are often too corner-cut

the probook and elitebook lines are markedly different.

i snagged a 5310m and it was excellent for the price paid

They will send a cheque for the evaluation value of the traded laptop or PC according to their terms and conditions.

For a possible £304, this is a great deal I think. I paid nearly £300 for an NC10 last year, now look what 300 quid gets you. HOT!

No its not the same

Intel have a whole line up of different graphics chips, they don't just make one.

The failing graphics on one particular model doesn't mean they will all fail.

Jelli already answered joeybutterface’s question correctly so I’m not sure what you are on about as the failing GPU was nVidia and this is Intel! That is ancient history anyway.

Clearly just because this persons laptop failed, it dosen't mean every single HP laptop will have this problem.

Question 1. Does your computer switch on & work?

Computer powers up, and no errors appear on the screen. If laptop, the main battery holds some charge and the screen is working.

This is quite important, many old laptop dont hold charge and if this criteria is not met you get 0 for your laptop!
