#3
What Graphics card has this laptop got? Not very clear on the Currys website.
#4
its an integrated intel hd graphics, on the processor.

posted this few days ago at £399 now even hotter.

you can only use the trade in on reserve & collect in store, you can't trade in and get the 5% off (if you're going to buy i would phone the tele sales & try, you never know if you dont try)
from currys website.
"Limit of one trade in per new laptop purchased. Trade in unit must be a laptop and must: have an optical drive (e.g. CD/DVD), power up when switched on, include the correct power supply and battery, not be locked by a password and not have any significant cosmetic damage, i.e. the keyboard and screen must be undamaged and the casing and hinges intact."

lots of hoops to jump through...

The Core i processors have their own built in graphics accelerator which is equivalent to an ATI 4200 256MB Graphics chip. So any computer with a Core i processor can do basic video editing, and basic 3D gaming.

On paper i would say this one, the only downside of upgrading this is it has 2 x 1gb sticks of ram (according to hp site), so you will have to buy a 2gb stick & have 3gb for about £40 or buy 2x 2gb .but it will still be a good machine with the standard 2gb installed. Off the top of my head i'm sure this can take upto 8 gb of ram.

I thought Windows needed to be 64 bit to have over 3gb of RAM

For speed and graphics in a single application the HP is better. If you want to run several applications at once without slowing down, or you transfer/copy large files, then the Samsung.

Anyone know what the battery life is like?

Anyone know what the battery life is like?

Up to 5 hours for the HP. 3.5 hours for the Samsung.

http://www.laptopreviews.org.uk/hp-laptops/hp-g62107sa-laptop/
http://www.dealgiant.co.uk/samsung-r530-laptop-review-power-packed-dual-core-laptop-deals-specs/

This is because the Core i3 processor is more power efficent, as well as being 35% faster than the Pentium Dual Core.

Thanks, that is helpful. Now wondering why this has no heat compared to the Samsung deal.

I'm also wondering that myself? The samsung is a good deal but i think this core i3 edges that for me.
if you're in no rush to upgrade, a memory deal will surface & make this a great day to day lappy, eventhough it's still a good machine with 2gb ddr3 dual channel ram
#19
This is a great deal ! The i3 is a better cpu than in the Samsung. From cpubenchmark.net, the T3300 passmark benchmark is 1423, the i3-330M is 1,982.

I run 2gb on Windows 7 64bit and have no performance problems. However if you want more its relatively cheap to buy and upgrade yourself, and easy !!

The newer i3 models intel is bring out aren't as capable as the current model so again this is the better model to get. £399 at CPW, Dell equivalent is £429...

this is also an option for those who have not seen.

I think it can see and use 3.6gb but if the graphics card can/wants to take the rest it will. so its not like its pointless having 4gb over 2/3gb
#22
just a shame it's got a glossy screen

Hmm trade in deal doesn't say it needs a working battery or an OS (or even a hard disk...)

Conditions say it needs a battery & power adapter. But no mention of HDD - just that it needs to start. Taking mine down this aft without hard drive but an Ubuntu bootable DVD.
#27
That's what I meant... it just says a battery, not one that will accept a charge :)

Also, I wouldn't sell, trade in or give away a computer without DBANing it first, or without removing the disk(s) altogether.
#28
Also I'd be lucky to get damn small Linux to boot on the laptop I'm thinking of, never mind Ubuntu :D

Wha?

So if I trade in my old junk 486 laptop (It works fine!) I can pick this up from PCWorld for £299?

Bargain! Don't have the cash spare, but tempted anyway!
#30
Good battery life for the spec, might take a wonder to Currys at the weekend and take a look at one. Beats the samsung for most things but looks.
#31
i have a old lappy a toshiba tecra2 but the kids have destroyed it, some keys missing and only half the screen works or i would be at currys now ...sob/sniffle
#32
Good specs, but I really do not like the plastic finish on these at all (It's supposed to hide scratches and marks) it looks like it's made out of recycled plastic cups.
#33
mumbojumbo
Can't be bothered with the trade in. Can anyone confirm if the 5% off code works?

see post 34 here http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/samsung-r530-t4300-windows-7-3gb-25/745558?page=1
only works for delivery, never tried it myself tho...

Hot Deal if you're after huge 15.6 laptop or desktop replacement.
Just to clarify - 2Gb is more than enough for Windows 7 (different story for Vista), you'll rarely use more and pointless paying more for the RAM upgrade.
Example:
My friend had Corei7 920 rig with 6GB tri-channel DDR3 (3 * 2GB sticks), worked for months including gaming and allsorts. Turned out it blue screened a few times over period of 3 months, upon a memory check, DIMM 2 stick (second memory stick of 2GB) was faulty. Meaning he'd rarely used over 2GB running some pretty demanding apps and games!

this laptop is no bigger than the average 15.6" and is certainly not big by laptop standards so what do you mean?

Is this a better deal than the samsung at the same price at pc world/currys dixons? I have read good reviews of the samsung, can't find much on this. How is the screen on this? HD? Crisp?

Pop into a shop and take a look but I'm now going with HP, due to the lower power and faster CPU plus twice the battery life of the samsung. Also the graphics chipset is better on HP.
