I'm in the market for a budget laptop but have never been a fan of HP.
Looks good spec tho for the price.
Can any of you guys help me out with a bit of advice? Cheers.

I can't stand HP laptops, but this is a decent one. Bought this for my sister (at £80 more) when she was after a cheap but "proper" laptop, and it's served her well. A little bulky for my tastes but looks okay, is built well and runs media/games better than my ultra-portable i3 (admittedly, mine doesn't have dedicated graphics).

The only things that aren't great:
- Touchpad has no obvious edges, it's flush with the handrest
- Fan is noisy and runs all the time, although it might be possible to change this in the BIOS settings. It's not my machine so I haven't tried.

Thanks very much for your insightful feedback Samme. Fan issue is a bit worrying, especially in light of HP's history with heat issues but I'll do a bit of googling on what's possible with the Bios, before making a decision. Cheers.

Try blowing some compressed air through the fan vent you'd be surprised how much dust gathers there,

Thanks, but it's not actually a heat/cooling issue. The laptop itself stays cool - it seems that HP are a little paranoid about overheating so have set their fans to near-enough full speed all the time. Like I say, it's possible there's a manual setting to change this but I don't know...
