I know that they have a similar deal for the HP DV5-1110EM somewhere in here.

But this one sounds a lot better to me.

A few notes
It does have the NUMPAD at the side.
It has a extra button on top of the mouse pad to turn it off in case this annoys you when typing, etc.

Overall a really good deal.

I believe you might be able to use the discount voucher that they are using somewhere else, so you could get it even cheaper and maybe QUIDCO.

PS: I can't get the direct link to work :-( . In case this helps Product code : 941904

Good deal for the specs.

Probably the only thing this wont do is gaming and processor intensive tasks.

Will be fine for hooking up to the tv to use as Bluray player.

HOT from me

Heat from me althought i'm after a laptop without blue ray (already have ps3) and 15.6" screen but must have hdmi. Not hijacking the thread but any thoughts on that? Oh also has to be £350 max!
#4
Recently bought from the same group and had nothing but problems with it - have had to collect because of the constant blue screening its had (which means without a laptop for a few weeks). Maybe just a bad one out of many perfectly good ones, but from my experience, wouldnt recommend it.
#6
get it from currys instead and use the code 'aff15' to get another £15 off ;-)

Brilliant laptop, bought it when the offer was posted a few months ago.

Went for the HP one last nite but now thinking is this better?

any computer genius'es on here, mikeT etc to tell me which of these two is better or to even advise me on whether to cancel the one coming and hold out for a better one?

TIA

depends what you are wanting dizzy, will u be gaming or not? this 1 has hdmi and also has 800fsb, other ones recently have been 667fsb.
#13
I've ordered the other one, but too am having second thoughts. I was buying it for general stuff, with a hint of gaming, possibly bf2, but nothing major as have a ps3. Which one?
#14
Would say this is better than the HP DV5-1110EM laptop posted yesterday.

Gives a bit more insight...

thanks hajj and kenobi for your reply im not very tecchie at all and in the market for a laptop for my brother, think of cancelling the other one and just waiting a while now to see if better deals come up!

i don't mind waiting, this is for a 18yr old heading to uni in september likes playing online poker too and is a movie buff, apart from the college work i hope he will be doing on it, any advice would be appreciated,

thanks

pm'd u aswell hajj

Doesn't really help a lot, just states they're both pretty similar, but worth reading anyway.

graphics card in yesterday's post is a little better, so is it's harddrive (250gb instead of 160gb) BUT this deal has 17" screen and a MUCH better processor so i'd go for this 1 if i were you. Bigger screen and more resolution = well worth it, cpu will be around 20% faster too:)
#19
Argh!!!!! But this one doesn't have a HDMI out. This bloody site costs me a fortune!
#20
Same here TelicVet, im getting worried and majorly depressed now, think ill refuse delivery of the other one and might not even go for this!

think im gettin scared!
#21
I think I might join you. How can I cancel my order? Do I have to wait until office hours tomorrow? I'm not worried so to speak, as they're both pretty decent machines. But I hate having taken a wrong gamble.

This laptop DOES have a HDMI out port. You can connect it to a 1080p tv and watch movies in full 1920x1080 or you can connect it to a hdmi port on your monitor if it has 1 or get a dvi to hdmi cable to connect it to dvi port on your monitor. screen on this laptop does 1440x900 which isnt full 1080p but will still look nice watching blurays on it.
#23
ok here's the update fearing ill not come across a better deal before september i have bitten the bullet and cuz of Haajj3's advice gone for this one now, trouble is they are delivering the one from yesterday tomorrow, think ill just refuse delivery! think u shud do the same TelicVet if u reli dont want it and wanna cancel, easier to just refuse delivery then call up for a refund.

Decisions, decisions! Altho at the end of the day the processor and speed is what matteres to me in the end, so ill most prob take delivery of the 17'' on wed/thurs and Im wondering seems as this is 17 ins is this one heavier than the 15ins one from yesterday?

BY the way thank you sooo soooo much to all who helped and advised me, u guys are the best! Im pretty clueless when it comes to tecchie stuff hence the name;-)
#24
Hmm I'll see if I can swap my order AM tomorrow, rather than refuse delivery. Thanks to everyone also!!
#25
you guys are getting worried over nothing, you CAN return it, it's the law

Funny that, I had that problem.

I bought a refurb a month or so ago from Dixons and had the same problem with Blue Screens (it was the HP-110 model). On first boot up blue screen, went into safe mode and an installer finalised something. Windows loaded and it blue screened at end of registration. Got through that and it continued to occassionally blue screen. Swapped the RAM sticks and been happy ever since - guess one of the sticks was flaky - I was planning to increase the RAM from 2GB to 4GB anyway, but be aware they dont seem to check these refurbs very well.

Dont get me wrong, my machine is fantastic - great condition (no instructions), but I had to preform a little bit of a fix on it to get it to work properly. Refurb or not, this should not be the case.

(I didn't want to send it back 'cos there was no stock left and I would not get a replacement!)

this laptop is great, ive used a few of these at work and performance is very good. bloody bargain, especially to say youve got nvidia graphics and bluray

these usually retail for just under £500
#28
How does this compare to the £332 laptop posted on: http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/359585/mass-laptop-clearance-limited-stock/
I'm very tempted to get a laptop today and don't wanna make the wrong decision!
Thanks!

Been tempted by this for a few days and took the bite this morning. Currys has the £15 off voucher so went with them.

It's actually very well spec'd and is a good replacement for my desktop. Means I can spend more time with the zoo downstairs! The gfx card is pretty decent, memory is good as is the CPU. Bargain. Hot.

Has anyone mentioned the promotion code MARCH10 for a further £10 off??

Previous order cancelled. Gone for this one instead, from Curry's.

lol, Did not notice that yesterday. I just did a quick post to inform all of you of such a nice deal.

I have updated the post.

Can someone tell me how to get the direct link to the laptop? Also how do I add a picture?

Regarding this laptop and the other one I can only say this.

This laptop is great, the graphics card is not brilliant I have to admit but it's ok.

Regarding gaming I install the follwoing games in this laptop to find out:
I have tried the following:
- GRID
- Golden Compass
- Prince Caspian

Yes the last two kiddy games but what can I say I am a dad :p

Anyway with GRID the game does not cope well at 1440x900 at all maybe with low settings. But I reduce the resolution of the game to something like 1024x768 and at least I can play it.
Now golden Compass and Prince Caspian work ok in the 1440x900 but with low settings and forget about AA and such things just leave those off.

But when I bought this laptop it was a a second machine for mainly internet browsing, watching movies and so on. At least you can sort of play games if you want to but don't expect to play CRiSYS in max settings. For hardcore gaming you are better off getting a desktop.

This laptop is just brilliant and for the kids to do homework, surf the web, play their games, watch movies etc is fantastic.

The hard drive for me is not an issue 160GB is enough, I could always move things to my desktop or to an external hard drive.

Also the 17'' screen is fantastic, but the viewing angle could have been a bit better.

One other thing that I like about this laptop is the "vertical line" that has next to the pad area. This works as a scrolling bar which ironically my wife spotted. So you don't need to press the button and scroll up or down just used that "vertical line" and you'll be scrolling up and down whilst browsing.

One last thing is about using this laptop with a HDMI to a DVI cable, one of my TVs is not a HDCP compliant or something like that (basically it has not got HDMI port), so when I want to watch BLU ray movies on that TV full screen it just does not work, I have to either watch then on the monitor or on a HDCP complaint TV. But if have an HDMI port in your TV no need to worry about this.

I hope my experience with this laptop helps some of you make an informed decision.

This deal is for dixons, other deal is cheaper with currys. You cant change the direct link to another company so i made a new deal and also put info about 4% topcashback and full laptop specs in it and even a link to the official laptop specs pdf.

One other thing that I forgot to mention.

This laptop does not have Bluetooth but I've got this one from dealExtreme and works with no problems in this laptop and I don't even notice that is there
