3 hours battery listed, so 1-1.5 hours in reality?

I have an acer 17" Laptop and love this size of screen as i dont move the laptop, so it does'nt need to be very portable.

got this laptop, bought it from pcworld for £350 refurb, last year, so this is a good price.

I dont know how i check if this is the same model but this looks very similar to my laptop and it has a terrible overheating problem. Also remember over a relatively short period of time the battery looses its capacity, ive had it just over 2 years and now i can only use it plugged in and its down to only holding a 60% capacity.
But its a lovely size screen as a replacement to my desktop.

People kill batteries by leaving them plugged in all the time, thats what causes the capacity loss.

Depends how intelligent the charger is in the laptop, if it has a battery conditioning system and probably the quality of the battery,

I have a 6year old dell business laptop, still on the factory battery, it spends 99% of its time working from the mains, yet the battery still handles 2-3 hours with ease.

Yes thats true, but laptop batteries in general only tend to have a 2 year life span. Plus it will draw more juice having a 17" screen so even more so it will drain battery. But who buys a 17" laptop if they are looking to carry it around with them anyway?

I have the slightly older version of this laptop - about 2 years old.
Sounds like your cooler fins have got clogged up with dust - common problem with laptops.
I use a Giottos Rocket to clear the fins. Just give it a good blast in all directions in and around the cooling vents at the back and underside, every month or two. You'll be surprised how much dust comes out if you haven't cleared the vents out before ;)
You can get Rocket blowers from most photography suppliers, or:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Giottos-AA1900-Rocket-Blaster-Large/dp/B00017LSPI

The battery capacity issue is common to laptops once they're a couple of years old or so. Not much you can do about it other than either put up with it, or replace the battery.

I get 2 hours from mine with brightness at normal, and 3g dongle in use.
Turn the brightness down a bit, and obviously get a little bit longer.
