Similar spec Omen laptops have been posted with free Xbox elite controller. This has more RAM than the Omen but this model is quite a bit bigger and heavier because of the 17" screen. Personally I would prefer the extra RAM to the Xbox controller, but I would say the 2 deals are similar in value for money.

EDIT - looks like this is not eligible for the Xbox controller. That is an omen deal.

No. That is for Omen laptops and PCs, not Pavilion.

my bad you're right, saw the "exciting offers included with this pc" banner and presumed it was the same... you do get halo wars 2 and 6 other software for free though http://store.hp.com/UKStore/Merch/Offer.aspx?p=c-gaming-intel-premium

if anything like last years ... the screens on the 17 inchers are quite good
#9
Anyone know how good the screen is? I saw the screen for the HP Omen in John Lewis and it was awful

Unless this is sarcastic, I actually can't find any reviews or mentions of the screens in this thread...

Hi Superflyguy What is the diff between the two and which is better?

PCIe is faster than the SATA interface.
In the real world and grand scheme of things I dont notice a life changing difference in speed on my desktop between the 2.
It's a SATA SSD they put in but I dont know if the interface is PCIe.

In any case this is too good a deal, around £860 or so after TCB.
I'm going to bite - thanks for the saving OP!

did you see the cheaper one?
(if the m.2 ssd is sata then its unlikely to be a pcie compatible slot also ...but dunno in this case ofc)

Yes but I thought better processor and extra memory and slightly better graphics chip was better for me.

I am going to change the ssd for 1TB Samsung 850 and just sell the supplied drives.
Coming to a Gumtree near you soon.......

its the same graphics,
so you're going to take out the 128gb SSD and put in 1TB ssd alongside the 2.5inch 1TB HDD?
or just removing both and keeping a single 1TB SSD?
guess depends on your needs but seems odd to me :p

17.3 optimus VIII?

starts at 800quid with 4gb ram, lower cpu, lower HDD, no ssd, same gpu

what spec are you getting for what price? even giving you removing the os and robbing someone for it
i see 1009quid for same spec other than your upgraded GPU and stolen os
or are you also removing all drives so even further from like vs like?

interesting, the price has indeed increased since i ordered mine.
However - I'd still opt for better permenant hardware (CPU/GPU) and spec lower RAM/HDD that can be upgraded later (using existing parts if you have them already?)
Remember, you're stuck with whatever CPU/GPU the laptop comes with - RAM and SSD/HDD can easily be changed.

yeah but thats 2-300quid worth of improvemnts to be made there, may as well aim for the next level rather than heavily gimp the machine right now
