Seems like an awesome laptop, apart from the graphics card.

But then again, Great for the price =D Hot hot hot
#3
Great specs for the price, hot
#4
Voted hot.... Can't make my mind up as to whats the better deal tho, this or the numerous Dell deals that keep coming up.... so many choices at the moment. :-D
#5
Obviously the Dell deal a few days ago beats this masively, especially with the free accessories, all for under £270 if i remember correctly.
#6
note you cannot add any more additional ram to this.
#7
seems a lot of money for a laptop with worse graphics than X3100 embedded.

Nice looking but no games. Both Dell deals beat it but not for looks.
#8
Heat added. Anyone in two minds between the Dell and HP - go for the latter!
banned#9
Is it easy to update the graphic cards on laptops for gaming? If so, how much are they usually roughly? Greta price.
#10
is the x3100 card any good?
#11
ps if i wanted to connect this laptop to a tv what would i need?
it has pc input, and my other tv has dvi, the laptop has s video which would be superior?
how do i get sound?
1 Like #12
X3100 is about the best built in graphics card. But still not realy suited to games.
Discrete such as Ati 2400 or Vidia 8400 are the base line game cards. 2600 or 8600 cards give games kick.

Laptop graphics cards cannot be upgraded. This £339 deal is still good.

Dont buy these HP for games. Todays £260 Dell one with 8400 graphics (less with Quidco) beats this hands down in that department.

its pretty much impossible to upgrade the graphics in any laptop so dont think about it. To connect to a TV you will need a VGA cable , Male to Male and if you only have DVI input then you will need a VGA>DVI connector for the TV end.

Or you could get a DVI cable with a connector for the laptop end.

Your best bet would be an s-video to scart cable. Widely avaliable and quite cheap at some places. The cable will come with an adapter usually allowing you to plug both phono's into the headphone port of the laptop.
#15
i bought the other dell vostro 1500
dual cre 2 duo t5270 i think?
2gig ram
bluetooth remote control and also 2meg camera with 160 gig hard drive for £376 plus £16 in rpoints so £360 was that a good deal?

ps rep added

The second dell only beats it in graphics, everything else this beats hands down.

Not really the Vga cable with dvi connector will be a huge alot better quality since it produces HD signal.1280x1024

any links?

Even better, Im behind the times it would seem, did not realise they had it all in one now:thumbsup:

Although pretty short? seems thats just instead of a connector for a long vga cable, if you get a long vga cable can get the connector for 1 pound, i bought a few a while back.
#23
so is that what i need?
#24
ps whats dvi-i and dvi d?

#26
im a bit confused, do i put the dvi cable to my TV and the vga lead in the pc?

WHATS dvi-i and dvi-d?
#27

You plug the vga end of that cable into laptop and the dvi end into the tv,

dont know what differnce between dvi-i and d is

The sound will use laptop speaker still, if you wish proper speakers just plug your normal speakers into the headphone socket, simple. unless you want surround sound.. but its a laptop...

For surround sound you will need to buy a surround sound card for it.

Also it needs to be Male to Male, that cable does not say but from description I assume it is. maybe email amazon.

thank u mate!
the laptop if it has 7.1 integrated sound will that be able to handle surround sound?

Oh i missed that, its a media centre laptop afterall, it possibly already has surround sound input , would have to research it.
#31
ps this is the vostro 1500
banned#32
oh right no clue, yeah this one doesnt have 7.1 sound inbuilt.
banned#33
anyone got a link for that Del?
#34
ok cool reser you a star!

I think what i will go and find out how to connect my pc to my HD TV
its probably best to do it via VGA yeh?

this one has HDMI and VGA,
banned#35
if the laptop has an hdmi connection use that for sure, much easier to connect and higher quality.

Also to people who vote this cold cause of dell laptops, this should be classed seperate, its a deal for this particuler laptop at this price, voting cold cause an ugly dell laptop has similar specs for £50 less isnt really a great reason.

Also imo its worth the 50 quid extra for the look of this, the dells look like the cheap laptops of yesteryear and i would be quite embarrsed to use them which is why i decided hp in the end.
#36
Its not bad for the price. The Dell Vostro 1500 deal was £260. This deal is £359.

Thats £99 difference (both have quidco).
The Vostro 1500 has a high quality magnesium alloy chassis. Plain looking yes but its a business laptop.
HP for a few speedy multi threaded applications. (Single thread applications the Dell is faster)

However only the Dell can be classed as a games/multi media laptop because its the only one with an added graphics card.

Interestingly I dont see the front multimedia buttons on the HP.

This has not been voted cold by me.

Maybe someone can tell me why its called 'Multimedia'. I guess the answer is that all laptops are media capable.

Well i was comparing to the vostro 1000 since that is the one with similar specs for £290, also you cant compare the vostro 1500 only thing it has better is graphics, the hp beats it hands down in everything else.

mY BAD i have 2 tvs, one tv has DVI AND A VGA CONNECTION, 1 tv has a VGA and HDMI port

my laptop has s video and VGA and my pc has VGA only

whats best way using the laptop?
