Guarantee if you do it will be more than this, they are offering £75:00 cash back on the X311 Data Vault but can't find them anywhere

Thanks Bowler-Man

Very tempted, but then read it can't be used as a Domain controller, which was going to be the big advantage for me over a Simple NAS solution.

Still not ruled it out though. Can anybody comment on how noisy these are and whether they can be put into power save when not being accessed?

Thanks

I got this because I was running a couple dell SC600 server which was to noisy this makes about the same noise as a laptop very quite compared to a full blown sever runs as an headless server but will run 2008 server and if you check around there is a few "How To's" but I us the function of the unit Video conversation, PC Backup's Duplication files etc. I would not go back to the 2008 or SBS I used to run on my old servers this is so simple to use the wife can even use it.

If you need a Sever for doing exams and stuff just use VMWare or VPC, on a reasonable spec laptop / PC I use mine a lot to steam Blue Ray (MKV) to my DNLA media box which is great.

Not had this problem myself as mine is always on, considering the amount of how little noise it makes and the power it consumes didn't think it was worth shutting it down but then I have an email server and uTorrent running on it so needs to up all the time really. Was the 3rd party app Lights Out? I have this on my Acer H340 which does seem to work okay.

Please give more info about this please. I have had mine working sweet for years.

It's a great deal - possibly due to Microsoft launching a new 64 bit (2008) based version of Windows Home Server within the next 6 months.

Mine arrived last week. Quidco tracked and Discount voucher worked.

Just need to fill in the cashback form and im done. Up and working over the weekend, great item and a good price!
#24
Tried ordering twice, both were refused by HP. They evidently don't want my money?! Oh well looking for an alternative now.

Incidently did you guys pay on card or PayPal?
#25
I paid by Card.

Seems strange, ive never had payment issues with them before, apart from the day i ordered but that was due to their payment system being down.
