Seems like a good deal, I would have been interested but just bought a 11.6 hd screen netbook with 250 gb hd & 2 gb of memory for £150 second hand.
It was an unwanted christmas present, and a bargain for me.

Seems unusually cheap for that spec. Was it in the forums?
The 311 seems to be plagued with issues over a too sensitive touchpad making it difficult to work with. It's also marginally bigger than some 11.6in machines. It has been £250 with the 3G sim slot previously, not sure if this one has or not.

You should post the voucher code. Seems to work on other PCs etc.

You sure this has been as low as £250? where at?

This as got the ion graphics which most netbooks don't have by the way

This is a very good price, as it has the ION graphics it can play many games plus HD videos perfectly..

I also beleive it has a 6 cell battery that does not stick out the back which is great,

I just want to know does this support 3gb of ram as the specs say max of 1gb?

Good find OP, this is a not bad deal - agree about the touchpad being to sensitive but apparently that can be addressed via the bundled software.

Cheers, Scotty Boy!

Thanks Scotty Boy!

You're quite right about the trackpad, it's a niggle but hardly something i would attridbute a statement like "plagued with issues", it's something you can overcome with software settings and a bit of research, something some people baulk at as "oh no, it's too sensitive...now i have to actually look for a fix and think for myself..."

To answer a few questions raised, the voucher code has been posted, please read the thread carefully, and no, this is not the 3g version, although you can apply the same code and go through Quidco to get the discount, and free shipping on the 3g model.

Well plenty of discussion and frustration in the forums then.

Orange were doing this with 3G for approx. £250 around December. It will be here in the forums somewhere.

Providing a link to your source would be helpful mate

You can upgrade to 3gb as there is a spare slot. The confusion I think is due to Microsoft placing a limit of 1gb to sell the XP license. The machine will support 3gb with the originally installed XP.

I have mine clocked up to just over 2.1ghz via bios with little noticeable impact on battery life. Very impressed with mine. If you do the Bios overclocking though, be extremely careful - try only conservative overclocks (I would say 2.2ghz max) and make sure you have a good idea what's going on, some people have bricked their 311's.

wattstobdm it has HDMI, can do 1080p over HDMI, and can support 3gb ram total. The hard disk is also easy to change if you wish.

http://myhpmini.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=62&t=2349 HP 311 is same as Compaq 311 (just branded Compaq in Europe).

is this hd?

this is a good deal having the NVIDIA ION LE which means it can play HD as well as some pretty modern games.

Ion LE is same as Ion full. In fact you can switch it over using a bios utility. To be honest the only advantage is the ability to use directx 10, so I doubt the average user gets any benefit.

How much is a stick of 2gb ram?

I've been waiting for a deal on this netbook but now im just thinking if i spend £30-40 upgrading the ram, its goes upto £300 and for another £100 i could buy that asus ul30 dual core culv notebook, but then £400 is a lot of money for a secondary machine, choices choices

I bought a 311 in December, great netbook.
The 311c-1030SA has a slot behind the battery for a mobile broadband sim card.

Supports up to 3 gigs ram

ION LE easily converted to full ION

HDMI output

Can be overclocked (not that I've needed to do that)

Plays - Better frame rate with XP although Windows 7 is the better OS in my opinion

Higher screen resolution than many netbooks
Take a look at http://myhpmini.com/forum/ for plenty of info.

My 2 gig stick cost about £40 from Crucial UK

Great find with the voucher! (Heat added)

Takes the 3G-enabled version that BlackCloud was talking about to £296.10 (possibly £284.25 with Quidco or £278.33 with Topcashback)

Thanks!

Where did the code come from? Is there an expiry date for it?
#24
u can pick up a 1gb stick of the ram if u dont need 3gb for really cheap
i have a spare 1gb one lying about that i will stick in the for sale section
#25
it say sthe expiry date is: 12/03/2010 so not long left
#26
Just a quick addition to this thread, i've posted the expiration date as 12th as there is no information on the HP site as to when they will cease to offer their free shipping.

On another note i've had the 311 now for just over 4 days, it's a beauty of a machine, out of the box it runs like a dream, i've been overclocking it to 2ghz and it's a monster!

Anyone who wants a brilliant netbook should seriously look into this as the power it offers with the form factor and the performance enhancing you can do with it is a step ahead of the other machines.

Battery life online browsing, downloading, youtube, and installing updates is 5 hours or so, just phenomenal, will be even more if you're working offline, but 5 hours for contant browsing, downloading and installing software/games/applications to the hard drive, you just can't beat that and on top of it all you've got the ion chip.
