I am assuming most people are relating this to the Microserver and therefore voting cold.

Ebuyer lists its processor speed at 3.1Ghz while the one from serversplus is 3.3Ghz. I checked both of them, might be a typo on one of the sites.

Thanks. I see that the E3-1220's only come as 3.1Ghz anyways.

Seems a heck of a lot better than the N40L, at least this would transcode 1080p stuff with ease.
    If thats your bag anyway

This might make sense if you do a lot of video conversion and just want a dedicated box to take care of the grunt work , otherwise for most home setups the Microserver is probably a better buy.

I got the Dual Xeon G5 back in the day when HP was offloading them for £99+VAT and it is pretty damn quiet for a server.

Hot for the reminder of the discount.

If anyone has one of these, what's it like for power consumption, heat and noise levels?
    TechNet
Balls! I just got one of these on the 18th :(

Guan - power consumption is low, the sandybridge based processor is very good.

Noice, on start up its loud but no louder then a large PC. It stays pretty quiet unless its a warm day.
Heat, it does get hot depending what you have in it.

I have 16GB ECC Ram in mine.
    4 x 3.5" 2TB 5900rpm Drives
    4 x 2.5" 146GB 15k rpm SAS DP Drives
    HP P410 SAS/SATA Controller with 512mb module & BBWC
    HP Blu-ray Burner

Really liking the kit, well made and more usable then my 2 N40L Microservers......perfect step up for me!

If you got it on the 18th, I think you might still be able to claim cashback. Will have to read the terms and conditions. Or just return it as it is still within the 30day return period, but a new one and put the disks back in

The Terms & Cons seem pretty strict on the "must be invoiced between 28-..." , also Ballicom only have a 7 day return window :(

Oh well, ive dropped the promotion company an email to see if it is possible.

Ebuyer are also offering £150 cashback now.
Very tempted to upgrade the Microserver with one of these.

Do you know if it will take standard (non-ECC) RAM?

    Good luck with your claim.

I've got an old Dell Pentium desktop and also an HP microserver. Could I replace both with this and also use as my main PC? The toughest thing I use it for is HD video editing.

getting rid of my industrial server listed here, might go for hpmicro, fill it with 2tb drives, prob a lot less power hungry. only good thing with mine it runs a good xeon quadcore and a spare socket for another. i bought it with intention of hosting and taking over the IT world..............the next FACE (cynical way of getting peoples information by making them feel all buddy and not lonely any more and selling it to big companies who use it to market rubbish to yourgrandmother) BOOK. but it never happened I just aint the zuck.
ps mods i only jest i hold no malice to facebook whatsoever.
