The 965 is a good chip. A good deal faster than even the 960.

Much better:

"With a GPU score of 5904 points, the Omen beats other notebooks equipped with the GTX 960M by more than 35 % (+50 % vs. GTX 860M). GTX 970M-equipped notebooks are faster by about 26 %..."

I think new customers also get 10% discount with promo code even on cyber deals , you have to open a credit account with them but you can pay in 3 interest free instalments . If that's right a further £79 quid off.

Seems very good for this price.

Only quibbles I can see are:
1. Not very many USB ports (only 2x USB 3 and 1x USB 2).
2. Only 8GB RAM... 16GB would be nicer for a gaming laptop.

Anyone know if it's possible/easy to add more RAM to this?

It takes up to 16GB of DDR4 over 2 slots.

Thanks for the info!

Does this come with a copy of Windows? It doesn't state it anywhere.

For extra £220, is this one not a better deal considering 256GB, 16GB ram and 4k screen http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/hp-omen-15-ax011na-laptop-15-6-4k-uhd-i7-6700hq-16gb-256gb-ssd-1tb-hdd-gtx-965m-2559073 ?

You should be able to. But it might take up to 6 months for the cashback to go through.

I ordered a similar spec machine on black Friday for £700 (lenovo y700) with 16gb ram and 256 ssd. What are the downsides of taking out a credit account and would there really be much benefit in my case for that 965m?

As it's over £200 you can do buy now pay in 12 months, as long as you pay the full balance before the 12 months you pay no interest.

The i7 is a good step up from the i3, but it depends on the ratio of graphics card to CPU you want.

LOL. What games need 16GB RAM to run?

Games that you're developing while you've got loads of other programs open at the same time!

On reading the reviews, the one you linked has a 2gb 950m not a 4gb 965m, this one would be A LOT more powerful.
Then again, for £505 with the 10% new customer discount it's still pretty damn good. I nearly fell off my chair when I saw "965m £560 (-10%=£505)", knew it was too good to be true.

NOTE: This is not the laptop in the original post, responding to SBarnez link to a lower model.

2? I have 3 games running simultaneously in Windowed mode and it still doesn't use 16GB!

Just buy an extra stick of RAM and put it in the free slot. Simple:

Can I set up a new very account and get the 10% discount but just pay off the full balance straight away instead of 3-12 installments? Also does very accept Amex cards for the installment payment? My Amex card gives 1% cashback too

Gtx 965M on a 4K screen for gaming? Never gonna work and then you'll be playing games upscaled from 1080P so not worth it imh
#27
apparently the 1080p display version has **** colour reproduction and low brightness compared to the 4k model. can anyone confirm this???

Good deal if available, but as usual it's a waste of time ordering from Very. A few people may get these deals, but majority place an order then find out 3 days later that Very are cancelling the order due to stock. This happens all the time, it's outrageously unprofessional. I foolishly gave these clowns another chance and ordered my laptop last night. Today I see the item is now marked out of stock and my order is still 'processing' - 99% chance now it gets cancelled. So frustrating especially when all those in my situation will now have missed out on an opportunity to capitalize on Cyber Monday. :(

Edit: I take it all back, this time Very came through. Writing this from my new laptop :)

I just spoke to a live chat adviser who told me my item was still due to be delivered today, but it was not marked as dispatched at the time. Funnily enough, while I was still talking to them I got an email to say it had been dispatched. If I click the tracking link the Royal Mail site says "Please come back later". A friend is experiencing the same thing but marked as dispatched yesterday.

The adviser said I will be notified if there are any delays, in which case I should wait 2 more days.

The adviser suggested I call their Track & Trace number which is a premium number soooo... :/

Don't think it's gonna be delivered today .. only tracking I can see is Swansea
