From what I can find on the HP website, all of their 'DVD' Burners are compatible with CD-R/RW and most people will know the score with refurbs but Argos' policy is http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Argos-Outlet/Refurbished-products

Almost all low-end Windows laptops come with optical drives (especially 15" models). It's safe to assume this one does too.

As you can see from the photo above, the Pavilion 15 does have a DVD writer.

Personally I would rather manufacturers remove the optical drive completely and make the battery larger or the laptop lighter.

I'm not surprised it is refurbished because HP makes low quality laptops.

I agree, or even just adding some extra ports on there. I can't say I've used a CD/DVD in the consumer world in years.

Maybe make the screen smaller also. I think a rename would be in order. Net... darn it, nothing is coming to mind. I think the 2 of you have the beginnings of a great idea.

SuperWrite DVD Burner means it has a CD Rewriter, have not seen any laptops with this spec without.

There's plenty that do and possibly you could argue the majority, but there's plenty that also don't such as Asus X401/501. Optical drives are becoming less and less of a necessity and let's face it, quite old slow technology these days. Kids are saying now Dad? What's a CD?

They do have plenty of faults. Many with motherboard faults which usually write off the cost of the machine. Some have fan faults such as the older HP G62. I've got a HP Envy Touchsmart i7 quad core, had one fail already a 17" one so I sent it back and got the 15", sadly for my bank balance I'm going to sell it and get a Macbook Pro. Less powerful but they usually reliable, just impossible to fix once they break.

Can anyone suggest a cheap laptop to run open VPN through? really not fussy about spec, graphics etc just something that will work

Thanks in advance.
