I was looking for a cheap computer for the kids at Christmas and came across this one. Dell comes close, but with the free 2 year guarantee, this to me is a clear winner! Order via Quidco for an extra 5% and use the £20 telegraph voucher to get for £171.

Ordered mine and was delivered next day, for FREE! Sorry, not sure how to put an image online.

The HP Pavilion A6101 is an affordable desktop PC that will meet the challenge of all your home computing requirements.

Windows Vista Basic in conjunction with a Intel Celeron processor and 512MB of memory ensure youll have enough computing power to enjoy the pre-installed software, whether its watching a DVD, creating a compilation CD to play in the car or simply editing a spreadsheet of the monthly household budget.

A respectable 160GB hard drive provides ample room for you to rip your music, back up important documents and store your digital photos the latter being a cinch using the 15-in-1 memory card reader.

The built-in DVD burner can handle all popular DVD media and supports LightScribe technology a nifty way of burning silkscreen-quality labels directly onto your newly created DVD using LightScribe-compatible discs.

4 USB ports, 2 of them handily located on the front of the computer - ensure connectivity for any external devices you may wish to attach including digital camcorders, cameras and portable music devices.

Yes, looked at the Dell one, but having a limited budget (I had to buy two), the extended warranty of two years and having a John Lewis store so close if I had any complaint, this one "won" for me.

fair point, having a john lewis store near you could prove to be a bonus.i presume after 90 days technical support is charged at premium rate?

Actually, sticking another 1gb RAM (making 1.5gb, which should run Vista OK) wouldn't cost a fortune, would it? The 2 year warranty and nearby JL store makes this a pretty good deal IMHO. Voted warm.

A decent price for the spec / warranty / convenience factor imho. Voted warm.

£29 for an extra 1gb ram. See this website for upgrade information on any computer. This HP can accommodate 2048 ram.

Found another 1gb ram on the same website for £17, which I have been advised is the better one for the machine. So I will have 1.5gb of ram in my new computer for under £200!

Take care, this is made up of 2x 512mb slabs and I'm not sure how many slots the PC has.

Edit: Seems like it has 2 in total so it's looking like getting 512b RAM in to make it 1gb in total?
