Cracking buy the missis has one that she had from save on laptops around 4 months ago and she loves it, it was nearly £300 and was posted on here and the deal went red hot. PcWorld are selling this or was for around double the price and a refurb was £100+ more.

Its not a lot more than a netbook and is a way more capable machine that has no issue with 720 and most 1080p video its also a nice looking machine and feels well made.

Yes, DM1s are all 6-cell. Battery life isn't as good as an atom, but about 2x as fast.

ok cheers for that. thats no big difference at all for me, was looking at the 1101sa on saveonlaptops for £320 (with external dvd drive, which i dont need) and was just waiting to buy, so this is a great deal for me.
thanks a lot o.p!

does this have a dvd drive?
#14
If it doesn't have a dvd drive then doesn't that make it a netbook?
#15

thanks. i didn't think it did, but it's still a good price.

i was going to order this Dell: http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/dell-inspiron-11z-black-6-cell-249-/808167?page=2 but think i'll go for this one instead.

No. The distinction is blurred but netbooks are usually max 10" screen with 1024x600 resolution (this is 1366x768) and have Atom processors. Quite a lot of powerful 12" notebook machines don't have optical drives any more. The HP 2540p either does or doesn't, depending on its configuration.

press ctrl + f - it will bring up a little search box at bottom of screen. then type in su2300 and press find . bingo.

or if you hover over the results bars on that page, info comes up- the AMD is ranked 600, the intel su2300 is ranked 548

hmm ,it does seem pretty high up there , im no expert, so hopefully someone can inform us, but from the reviews ive read of this hp with this processor and ram, people seem surprised and impressed by its performance (thats not much of a technical review,i know)
#30
Yeah mate same here, i used to be quite well up on computer hardware but there are just so many variations and different models of processors these days.

As you said people on reviews seem quite pleased. Quite easy to switch out the ram for 4gb too.

think the 1101 has 320gb instead of 250gb
The 1101 also seems to have an optical drive. Edit: scrub that - it's external :)

@mcnally32

Depends where you look and what tests you run :)

Trusted Reviews puts the k325 very close to the more powerful su7300 in the Acer 1810tz:

Hmm doesn't look so great when looking at that guide! I was so close to getting an inspiron today too, but missed out!
#35
I think the Best Buy deal at £225 for a 15.6'' was a better deal...

Anyone ?

maxmix
#36
maxmix, horses for courses. I NEED a small laptop. Yes you'll get better specs on a bigger one but these are much handier.
#37
So its an entertainment laptop, I presume as is an Entertainment laptop its has

a. A decent graphics card, not an integrated one that cannot handle 3d games
b. A decent Dual core intel processor and not a celeron.

If non of the above then its not very entertaining?
#38
Entertainment laptop doesn't mean gaming laptop, two VERY different categories. Entertainment means multimedia, and this will play HD video.

B, Celeron's used to be terrible, but that was 8-10 years ago, seems they have found it hard to shake that bad name. Benchmarks show this performs very well, so who really cares what name is given to it?
#39
I was initially put off by the Celeron name, but upon closer inspection, it's part of the Core 2 Duo family. It has 2 cores (genuine cores, not HyperThreaded).

I've finally ordered it - hoping Quidco tracks.

Thanks for the post and voucher OP!

Celeron is just a brand name now used to label the bottom end of whatever the current Intel processor range is ... I think the next step up are called Pentiums and the top range are Core's.
