quite fancy a small laptop. anyone have any experience with these (it can take 8gb ram which is a plus)

The spec for the money seems pretty good. Only a couple of reviews on amazon, but both positive. I like the look of it, given it's pretty similar spec to the macbook pro, but at almost half the price. Although you dont get the shiny metal and slimline looks.
#3
Does seem very cheap for the specs.
#4
been playing with this in john lewis, it really is a premium laptop... excellent build quality
the altec lansing speakers are amazing for a laptop of this size!

if i didnt already have a laptop already, would snap this up without hesistation!

I think you've just convinced me. I got the email about this earlier in the week but was worried it might be a bit flimsy and plasticky.

looks good (by good i dont mean the ugly lid or chunkiness though)
graphics is ati radeon 4550 and not integrated also as a bonus

edit: can get it for 600 elsewhere though so not THAT big a saving

has dedicated graphics
is 13.3inch
has touch screen

13.3" laptops always go for a hefty premium over the mass market 15.6" systems so this is a good price for the specs, even without the multitouch display.
#10
would you guy recommened this or the alienware m11x as im after something portable and dont mind spending up to 800 quid
#11
Good spec @ good price... So added heat...
It has 6 cell batteries but how long will it last? Any ideas...
#12
I have one of this range of laptops and they are fabulous. My only complant is that mine heats up and grinds to a halt. I'd guess this has been addressed in the newer ones.
#13
The finger print sensor is also annoying as that is about where I put the heel of my hand while typing.

I have a HP notebook for me its just the right size i fitted a 256gb SSD in mine plus a blu-ray drive got rid of vista running windows 7.I personally find Netbooks are too small full size laptops are to big but notebooks are just the right size.

This is a good price, I just bought the Samsung Q330 with i3 processor but am tempted to send it back and get this one as battery life is poor on it considering it was meant to last upto 7hours [think the battery is wrong size and samsung support is helpless, they just check on their own website, which tells me the battery should be 5900Mah and not 4400Mah like what came in the box].

Bit of a price difference so an £800 laptop would probably have a higher spec, depends what you want to spend and what you want to do with it.

the i3 processor I found to be pretty powerful, should be decent enough for basic video editing like what I want to do [just upgraded from my Asus UL30a which had a 1.3GHz culv processor and the i3 is twice as quick].

Some quick ones:

"the HP Pavilion dv3-2310 comes with 3 GB memory as standard and supports up to 8 GB DDR2 memory"
- The 3GB is DDR3 memory. If it goes up to 8GB of DDR2, can it also take more than 3GB of DDR3?

At ebuyer, where it costs significantly more, there is the description:
/product/204359
"switchable NVIDIA + ATI graphics"
- Does that mean you could put in a card with more than 512MB Ram?

It looks good. Thanks.

This means that you can switch between the integrated graphics card and the dedicated graphics card to save battery life when you're just surfing, listening to music etc. I think it automatically switches when you take the power cord out.
#19
Switchable means it has 2 graphic cards inside, well one basic on-board chip and the dedicated one. Main advantage is the on-board uses less battery power whilst the other one is more powerful.
#20
Very nice laptop and good price. Heat added
#21
So no more than 512, in any case. Ok.

Any ideas on that Ram issue? Would you be able to put in the new Ram yourself or would that invalidate any coverage (which would mean you'd have to use a recognised service person)?

Thanks for the info.

First of all you should not compare different sized laptops unless they are very slight, so 13.3" and 15.5" is a big difference where Sony has more space to put things into it. Saying that I would go with the HP, bigger battery comes with it and being dual gpu it means better for programs/games that requires a dedicated gpu.....
#24
agree with no.24....13.3 takes more efforts....

Sony 's Graphic card is a integrated one isn't it.
HP 's HDD is 7200 and ATI 4550 is much better.

So is this a good price laptop then as I'm desperate for a new lappy and was wondering of o could find anything better for this price???

I'm confused. What are you trying to link to?

I copy-pasted the full length of what you posted, and it returned results about HP laptops bought from John Lewis, mostly on a forum complaining about NVIDIA graphics problems. Given that this deal is from Amazon and the model contains an ATI chip, I don't see the relevance.

Worth a purchase then???

Thanks for the post, received it today and all good so far.

Delicious
Thanks for the post, received it today and all good so far.

Got a refund on my previous laptop so am tempted with this, did you choose free delivery option or something else to get to you so quickly?

I love the spec and the screen but i cant decide over the floral design!
#32
The design isn't too bad to be honest, saw one in the flesh although slightly different spec. It was actually a lower spec for £650 at the Currys clearance store in Merry Hill with an older Core 2 Duo processor! The bit that is annoying is that all the plastic bits are gloss, so lots of cleaning required from finger prints.

That's what stopped me from getting it... looking for a laptop for university which means id be using it for minimum 3 years and when seeing it in the flesh... it really put me off.
#34
Bought one earlier today.

This has expired now. Cheapest price on Amazon is now £750+ from the Marketplace sellers. Can still be had from £599 elsewhere.

Luckily I ordered mine yesterday.
#36
Next cheapest is Currys with discount code SALES6 or something like that for £565ish....
#37
Gone to £600 now, seems like someone changed the price to match Currys, but without the voucher code. Shame. Am glad the deal lasted a few days as I already placed my order.

Just as a reference it is a dragon design not floral.... Liking the laptop so far.
#39
ive gone for one of these now too. I'm hoping i can live with the design. hoping it looks better than the pictures.

Cant really find another laptop i fancy with this spec in the price range. Just returned an acer i had 6 months ago to amazon for a refund and they did this one for £575 for me. Which is fine.
