I have had the Intel core duo version for 4 months it is same in every other respect as this one and can recommend it.

Cost me £25 to upgrade to windows 7 believe offer is still on with HP

Display screen on laptop is crystal clear and does 16.9 fine, Modded Catalyst centre to be able to get latest versions displays mkv 1080p through Hdmi to TV fine no stuttering soundcard ok and this laptop streams fine but only through wireless g (no wireless n option with mine). don't play games so can't comment on that but as a straight out of the box machine for Internet, word processing, skyping (good webcam) watching films and streaming, I stream through wireless g to LG BD390 had no real problems so far

Found most of the hp installed software unnecessary and removed it, the laptop is well built but quite heavy. Only grumble I have is a bit slow on startup but with 70 processes more likely my fault than the computers and no spdif even though the spec I bought stated it had (I have an old denon receiver, and this soundcard supports DTS and 5.1 but with no HDMI in receiver an spdif would have been useful but I am not willing to spend another £80 on a quicdock 2.0 to get spdif but this won't affect anybody else probably, who is interested in this machine)

This is a good price and if I was looking for a computer still would still snap this up, I paid £427.00 4 months ago but had a 20% discount to get that

Lovely machine. I was lucky enough to get one from PC World for £239 last week (mine has Athlon X2). Running Windows 7 and have Half Life 2, braid and Bioshock on it; all run fast in full settings.
Highly recommended laptop.

I have had the AMD one. Very satisfied.

Was that a one off deal?
#9
The only problem with this is the Operating System is Vista, not Windows 7.
#10
Beware of the weight. I am still happy with my HP, but I really can't call it a laptop as it weighs me down like a tonne of bricks:(
#11
Good price - am v tempted.
#12
If I was buying an HP I'd seriously think about a cooling base for it to sit on and possibly extra warranty

HP + Turion = Mega Over Heat issues down the line (do some googling)

Dell might have an intel intergrated graphics which is not great for games? this has a reasonable spec ATI GPU

I cant find/build the above spec for that price either. The hp from pc world 399 is prob better than this
#20
Thanks OP - Just ordered.
Have a 2 year old HP myself and have found the build quality and reliability perfect.
Even ordered my Mum an entry level Compaq last year and that one's going great guns.
#21
have owned this machine for around 7-8 months now and i paid £550 from pc world.

fantastic machine. plays games fine (512mb HD GFX) - play HD Movies and stuff fine too

Have it hooked up to the TV now, use it alot via the HDMI slot for BBCI PLAYER catch up.

The HD Playback works 100% fine too.. (this is through a crappy HDMI cable + onto a 37" LG TV)

does the job and i would recommend it especially at this price! (even if only for word processing and browsing)

i use this for my university work , fantastic speeds, not 1 problem.

i have also used mine for download xbox360 games & left it on for 2 days none stop once!

fired it up after a restart & hey presto. the same machine :D

fantastic value.
#22
hey this is a great deal, might go for this!
#23
I'd say if you don't mind refurbished products, try this one from PC World for £399. Similar specs though 17" monitor, slightly smaller HDD, better battery (8 cell vs 6 cell). Pay £30 extra for Win 7 version.

Quidco straight to validated at £32.32 within the hour.....
Should be enough to pay for the Win7 upgrade? Haven't checked the small print, but anyone looked at what the costs and T&C's are for Win7?
#25
Anyone have any idea on hp's delivery time?
#26
so which would u guys go for? this hp laptop or this acer one here http://www.simplyacer.com/Product/id/645488
#27
Personally the HP, seems like the only advantage with the Acer is a larger hard drive.

Integrated graphics is also a big let down
banned#28
ive got a HP DV7, which is very similer in spec to this, but its a 17 inch laptop. One of the best laptops ive ever owned. Its what laptops should be and feel like. Glossy, modern looking, with nice design etc. Once you use/own this, you will feel ashamed of your old laptop and will look down at it.
#29
guys whats the screen quality like for movie playback?

HP build quality is far better than Acer.

Just a hint everyone, this laptop is not "N" wireless (only 802.11 b/g) but does come with Integrated 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet LAN. I expected that at HP quality at this price bracket to come with at least "N-class" wireless built-in but the HP's are very good quality build laptops. Bought my HP from JL via HUKD 18 months ago & still happy with it.

HP laptops & PCs are usually shipped with loads of bloatware when first booted up. So it may be a jibbering wreck despite the nice spec. You may need to run something like this - http://www.yorkspace.com/pc-de-crapifier/ this removes some of that rubbish they insist on installing (McAfee trials, etc).

Darn was just about to order as well.

have you tried any of the other codes attached to the first page to see if they are still valid.
There are 2 or 3 10% codes there.
#37
No none of them work unfortuntaly, even ones that have been listed for 2 years and more! Heres hoping that HP have cleaned out their codes to introduce some new ones for a new years sale.

So unfortunatly this deals expired :-(
