Hi, I found this machine on the hp website for £899 and thought that the price was pretty fare for the spec of the machine and then later on i found the same machine on the dabs website for £776 and then during the month of novemeber HP is offering £100 cash back on certain machine from authorised resellers of their machines and lucky enough this machine is part of the offer and dabs is an authorised reseller therefore making this machine £676 and i have not found a machine anywhere close to this spec and brand for the price.

this is hot, but i prefer my pc.
#2
the only slight problems i can see with the dv7-1000 is that it has no bluetooth built in and vista is the 64 bit version
other than that its fairly hot thanks to the 9600m GT gfx card!

your right it has no bluetooth which is bit strange but if you needed it could always buy an adaptor for £10 with the money you have saved and it is the 32bit version of vista not 64bit but i think it the graphics card that really make this machine at this price.
#4
oh yeah it is 32 bit !?!? sorry, i thought i read this had the 64 bit version the other day. i agree you can use a cheap BT dongle but i wish HP had included it, why the hell didnt they?? :(

PS: anyone know the best way to extend the warranty on something like this as our old HP laptop has just packed up after less than 2 years and so i'd rather get a 3 year warranty with the next purchase!

PPS:I looked into dom&gen and it was over £200 to extend the warranty on this model!
#5
and for those that like this but are bothered about the lack of BT i have found the higher spec model, the dv7-1020ea, which has a 2.26ghz C2D & BT for only £799 @ dixons. And if you use the "save25" code it can be reduced to £775 incl free delivery.

Love HP laptops on my third now and would always go for HP.

In terms of extended warranty I would think about PC preformance from PC World. I know most people will say to stay away from pc world but PCP is a good deal. You can set up PCP just before the first year finishes. PCP also coveres accidental damage and it is done on an origonal value basis.

Never had to deal with them over it so cant comment on the service but it is done in store which has to be better than sending off to manufacturer.

pcw's pcp is not carried out in store at all, you might be able to take it to the store and they might take it off your hands but they do not carry out the work unless it is something as simple as running a recovery on your machine but they will not fix any hardware issues in store.

Hardware issues are carried out in a number of places depending on what machine you have ie if you have a sony it goes back to sony in the first year and then to the techguys workshop in mansfield during the extended warrenty. I believe that most hp and companq machines go to a company called teleplan. while just about every other manufactuer goes to the mansfield workshop.

oh and if you do get pcp make sure that you read the terms as they can keep your laptop for upto 6 weeks while be repaired and if your machine is old and they find parts hard to come by then it could easily take those 6 weeks and that is a long time to be without your machine and they do not give you a courtesy machine while yours is away unless you get the business coverplan.

i really do not get why people are voting this cold, please post some links where you can find a machine that is a better brand than hp and a better spec for under £700 because i am in the market for a new laptop witha budget of £700 and i really can not find anything better for the price
#9
well i have ordered one and should be with me tomorow so will write bit of a review
#10
I think this deal is seriously hot

The Acer Blu Ray laptop from PC world is £599 and is flaming hot according to this site

For £80 more with this laptop your getting a better brand name and build quality, a better processor, 4GB ram instead of 3GB, 320GB hard drive instead of 250GB, 17" Screen instead of 16" and to top it off a better graphics card
#11
Yep i agree totally, this is a far far better deal, I got mine yesterday and could not be happier, i have not had a chance to really test it but i will run a few games on it at some point and let people know fps. Also i filled in the 5 minute online form to get the £100 cash back and uploaded my invoice last night and got an email this morning saying that it had it had been accepted and the money would be placed in my account "within the period specified" So i really can not see why people have voted this cold.
#13

yeah the only problem with that though is i do not know if you can actually use the cash back offer at play. If you read the terms of the cash back offer it says that the machine must be purchased from either hp or an official reseller of hp machine, and then if you go to the list of offical hp resellers on their website dabs is the only internet based one. Now i have seen a few compaines advertising the £100 cash back offer but i would not like to buy for hp then to turn round and say it was not from an official reseller.
#14
Fair enough, it's probably not worth £6 for the risk, but just thought I'd make people aware anyway. Good deal, why is this cold??
#15
I saw it on play at that price myself but just like you said i did not want to risk paying that much to find out that i could not use the other even though the are advertising it. I emailed play to find out but did not get a reply so for the extra couple of quid i went to dabs.
#16
Hi everyone,,i was thinking about buying this laptop myself, very good spec for the money i thought.....can anyone comment on how good this machine is,for games, everyday use really, many thanks
#17
For the money i do not think you are going to get a machine that has a better graphics card in than this at the moment, obviously in a few months that will probably change and a few months after that things will probably change again, that is problem with buying laptops and desktops the technology is always moving on and getting cheaper.

If you go to http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-9600M-GT.9449.0.html there is a review of the graphics card in the machine and if you go to http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark-List.844.0.html there is list of mobile graphics card and all there reviews.

here is there benchmark test for some games:
Crysis: 1024x768, med: 25 fps -> playable (only in low fully playable)
Unreal Tournament 3: 1280x800, Stufe 3/5 -> fully playable
Call of Duty 4: 1024x768, high Details: 50 fps -> fully playable
Supreme Commander (Gameplay, Multiplayer 2vs2): 1024x768, med -> playable
Race Driver Grid: 1024x768, med -> fully playable
Colin Mc Rae Dirt: 1024x768, med Details: 30 fps -> playable
Gothic 3: 1024x768, high Details: 35 fps -> fully playable
Lost Planet: 1024x768, med Details, DX10: 30 fps -> playable

I played installed and played flight sim x on it the other day and had it running at full graphics in normal play and it ran fine at 1024x768 (32bit colours), Although when was in a built up area like new york it did start to stutter. Later on this evening i will install call of duty 4 and find out the max settings i can play fsx in new york and give you fps numbers

Hi,i have read some reviews about the screen not been the best, what do u think, thanks for the help
#19
yeah i have read the same reviews about the screen and to be honest i can not completly understand it myself, i saw that some people were saying that it is not bright enough but that is crazy if you had any brighter you would need to where some sunnies, put it this way the screen is brighter on the hp than my other cheaper laptop with a standard screen.

I will try and take some pictures later and post the screens of my two laptops side by side so you can see it in comparison
#20
Thanks for the help,Curofone.........been looking at a few laptops for my boys for christmas now,and for the price, make, spec, and £100 cashback u cant go wrong here, why the cold votes, not sure why lol, sorted
#21
Voted HOT I'm in the same position looking for a laptop of the same spec and came up with this one from ebuyer

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/148709

was about to buy it too this morning untill I luckily came across this one!

New centrino technology and an awsome graphics card! then blue ray too... 17 inch display! its an awsome deal!

the HP's I was looking at all seemed to have really nice screens and seemed to have a real nice quailty feel about their build. I kinda wish it had the lightscribe over the blu ray though! I know that may sound silly but I've just got into those discs.

This should be smoking hot for the cash! especially compared to the other laptop deals on here.
#22
Glad some people are finally starting to see some sense, if anyone want to know anything about the machine or want me to run any tests on it to see how it preforms then just ask, i dont have many high end games to test on it so sorry about that but i do have call duty 4 and fsx so i will post the fps for them later and i dont mind downloading a few trials if people want to know for something specific
#23
I've just noticed the 5% voucher play voucher too, if that worked as well... that would be a hell of a deal, around £630 including quidco!
#24
I decided to treat myself and get the DV7-1125ea from PLAY.COM (using the 5% off code)
the RRP is £899 but i got it for £807 delivered!! :w00t:
the difference between the 1100 and 1000 series is the 1100 has a better WIFI card (supports draft N), a faster processor (P8400) and bluetooth.

Also, has anybody considered the HP care pack which adds 2 extra years onto the warranty for approx £150? i'm tempted since laptops tend to suffer more wear and tear than desktops.

Wish i could have afford that but my budget was £700 for a machine that can cope with playing ms flight sim x and that just what i got.

I tested fsx and with the graphics set to there max in normal scenery at a res of 1024x768 (32 bit) the games graphics menu set a fps of 20 and the machine managed to achieve that. In built up area like new york i had to drop the graphics down from ultra high (the max settings) to high (the second highest) to achieve the target of 20 fps. So yeah i am pretty impressed that a machine under £700 can cope with fsx at full graphics or close to

Also just installed and played the first level of call of duty four at just about full graphics and the fps ranged from 25 to just over 50 depending on what was on the screen at one time. Not once did the game stutter or struggle with anything on screen.
#26
hope these two images demonstrate the brigtness of the screen, The laptop on the left is my 1 and half year old medion md98300 with a normal lcd screen that i have had no problems with what so ever, the laptop on the left is the brand new hp in question. As you can see they will taken in a pretty dark room so you can clearly see how bright they both are, and they are both set to their brightess setting

just had a look on dabs and it is now sold out so if you want it for around that price will have to go to http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/-/654/861/-/5890835/Hewlett-Packard-Pavilion-DV7-1000EA-Core-2-Duo-P7350-2GHz-4GB-320GB-17-Blu-Ray-Vista-Home-Premium-Laptop-Notebook-Includes-100/Product.html?searchtype=genre and hope that the cash back offer is valid if it is brought from play, plays website is offering it but hp's t&c suggest not so i would give hp a call check
#28
I've ordered it with Play.com... I can't see how the cashback wouldn't work to be honest if they are advertising it on their site, I've took the chance anyway... if not... I'll just probably send it back.
#29
Just got mine today, great buy for the spec
#30
Thanks Curofone.

I`m awaiting delivery of this laptop following your link :)

Yeah play.com have just shipped mine, but hasnt arrived yet. Anyone know if cashback worked with play, as they advertised it but wern't on HP's reccomended retailers...
#32
I am glad that some people like the offer i found, still do not know why it was voted cold, have seen a machine that comes close to these specs for this price.

if play saying they have the cash back offer and then hp do not honour it as it not one of their offical resellers then i imagine that play would be breaking some law so i think that you are pretty safe, personally though i did not want to risk it so paid the extra £5 and went to dabs. I submitted my cash back claim a day after i got the laptop and got email confirmation that day saying they got my claim and then the next day saying the money would be paid into my account with in the specified time (upto 45 days).
#33
True, but the 5% off play.com code listed on HUKD made it like £630 which is pretty darn excellent, al long as they honour the cashback.

yep that is an stunning price for that spec, sure beats anything else in this forum by a mile.
#35
Yeah, I think its needs a seperate post so its not so cold, is that allowed since its a different retailer and all?

yeah it might be the same machine but like you say different retailer and and a cheaper price so if i was you i would post it just make sure that when you post it you link to the play 5% voucher so people can actually get it for £630

I would post it myself but ithink there are a few people in the forum that dont like me and would just shoot it down
#37
Well I will wait till mine arrives before I make a post, and check they give the cashback and all.
#38
well good luck and let me know how you get on with the cash back

Ah okay, well I have got the laptop, and applied for the cashback a few days ago, but They haven't let us know about it yet :(
