The dv7-3112-sa notebook is ideal for work, communication and multimedia thanks to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, as well as its FireWire port and four USB 2.0 ports.

The dv73112sa has a 17.3-inch HD screen with LED backlighting for first-class picture quality. Plus, there's plenty of storage space on its 320 GB hard drive and 5-in-1 memory card reader.

This is available for £499 at currys as a refurb deal although folks here don't seem to have a lot of nice things to say about Currys 'refurbs'.

The Turion II M620 processor is a little faster than say a T4400 and slower than a T6600. An i3 processor is much faster.

This does seem to come with fairly decent HD 4530 graphics - it supports direct x 10.1 and is a 'low-end' processor but should be a fair bit better than any integrated graphics.

It doesn't seem outstanding value to me - I think there have been better 17" deals lately but it should be quite a capable machine.

Thanks wombat6025 - judging by the cold votes this isn't much of a bargain at all.

I'm not aware of any 'hot' deals on 17" laptops at the moment; I think somthing like this Asus would be a better deal at £479 - only a T6500 processor, but much better 120M graphics and of course it's an Asus - it doesn't have firewire or eSata ports but does have HDMI.

Good luck hunting down a deal :D

Lets try to find a hot deal for a 17 inch laptop. I have the aldi one which I posted which rather disappointingly got a full minus 2 degrees of cold for a I3 17"!

Oh well - last time I bought a computer Medion were a well respected brand and you had to turn up at the crack of dawn outside your local Aldi to get one when they went on special offer.

It can go back within 28 days of purchase so get looking! - Aldi post

I notice there was a deal for the Asus I posted that went to -14 a couple of weeks back when it was £500.

I think anything other than ultra-portables that don't have an i3 or better yet i7 will get a pile of cold votes now; that said I don't know what went wrong on your deal - I guess it was partly because we all wanted one but so few were around and mostly because of the Medion horror stories that were posted; I voted hot despite that.

But at £600 this HP is definitely not a hot deal.
