V Hot - Great price for Quad core Media Centre

Does not say if TV Card is DVB or Analogue but with the features it has its superb.

This looks a good deal to me..

Can anyone tell me is it value for money and good spec?

Quad CPU is a obvious + point
how about the rest of the features?

thanks:thumbsup:

This looks to be the best performance/value base unit at the moment. Can any body comment on the graphics card, is it any good?

Does it even have a TV Card?

Couldn't see it make reference to it in the product brochure:

The graphics card is pretty okaish though not the best one, you are gonig to use it for some heavy grahic oriented games ?

Koma Toes
1 x TV antenna

Is that connected to anything though, is that info even correct?

It isn't mentioned in the official brochure - if it had TV tuning capability wouldn't they mention it there? There is also no info about a TV tuner card in the manual on the HP site - wouldn't they tell you how to set it up to receive TV programmes? I doubt it has a TV tuner of any sort from the info I have seen. If this is a consideration in your purchase would contact microdirect to confirm.

Info on same PC at Comet:

Watch & record live TV - Not featured

This thing is very good value,

The cpu and windows alone would set someone back £220ish if bought seperately...
Change the graphics card (for gaming) and youve got a very good all round computer there

8400gs will not be great for games. Tho it will probably manage to have a bash at some...
It all rather depends what kind of games you want to play and more importantly at what resoloution

http://www23.tomshardware.com/charts16/859-722-275.png

Is a rather innacurate list comparing most of the gpus around at the moment, that can be useful in a very general comparison, the 8400gs is 3rd from bottom.

The card to buy at the moment is probably the nvidia 8800gt 256mb which is about £120 and represents the best vfm, tho its cunningly not actually on that list....

This seems a great deal as on the hp site the same computer is over £600 but can any one tell me if HP computers are any good ive only made my own in the past. Ive been told that dell computers dont use good quality hardware and that upgrading the system yourself can be difficult. so can anyone tell me if this is true for the HP system? if i was to buy this system i would probably want to upgrade the ram, hard drive and graphics card.

thanks

No, just to watch some HD videos. I think ill buy this and then upgrade the graphics card later.

Thats what I ordered one for to replace my Xbox media centre

figure for £450 with DVI and digital audio out makes a darn decent media centre
#14
Saw this for £650 in my local John Lewis.

As someone else in the thread said, buy it at this price then replace the graphics and you'll have a great little system for under £600.

How easy is it to swap ot the cd/dvd drive on this as I may want to throw in a blu-ray drive (with usb 360 HD-DVD add-on).
#15
Good price for what it is, also buy now pay later.. i used V12 finance a while ago and there pretty good.. sent a letter 4 weeks before the end of 9 months was up and payment was easy (always good to keep your money yours :D) roughly £12 a week if you think about it as pay in 9 months O_o
#16
darn i forgot QuidCo.
#17
Going to order this now.

Never dealt with microdirect before and looking at the reviews they dont seem to be the best, but this price is unmatched and so im goin to have to go with them!

changing a drive is very easy, http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/3517121/LG-GGW-H20L-Blu-Ray-Disc-Rewriter-+-HD-DVD-ROM-Drive-Internal-SATA/Product.html
might be a better option for you than two drives

How are combi drives as far as quality now, I know when they first came out some people had issues.

I'd stick AnyDVD HD and PowerDVD Ultra on the PC to get rid of region and HDCP restrictions and allow all HD playback.

You want DDR2 memory.. however it says it has 2Gb, im not sure (till mine comes) if that is 4x 512 or 2x1024... so maybe someone could enlighten us

Whats HP's 1 year warranty like? I ask because judging by the reviews, it seems best to be shot of microdirect as soon as possible!
#30
Oh Well its now been a day and a half, with no reply from them and still showing as pending administration.,

Customer service is not a strong point, no reply to phone or email enquiries
#31
^^^^^ Did you pay for the £8 standard delivery?
#32
Yes I only paid the basic,

Its just the lack of updates, the status on the web does not change and they dont respond to email or calls.
#33
Im in the same boat as you. I ordered at 10pm yesterday and my order still says pending. The delivery is for the 7th and so ill wait until then before I start making any phone calls.

What a find this thread was :) My PC is 3 years old. Although I have replaced some parts over the years, the MB/PSU has never changed.

A couple of months ago 2 of my HDD's just vanished from within windows but showed at boot up. Now both my DVD drives have vanished within windows but show at boot up.

I have been watching this forum for a while now with all the Dell offers and waiting for something to come along, as I think my PC's MB has seen better days now.

So I have ordered this. I do not play games on my PC (shock/horror) so this will do me nicely :)

Many thanks to the OP for posting this.

I've done loads of business with Micro Direct over more than 10 years and have never had a single problem with them. If I've ever had a product that wasn't working right, the techies will check it, replace or give you a refund.

If you live in or around the Manchester area and ever go to there retail outlet across the road from McVities (MMmmm the smell of baking biscuits Mmmm), you won't find a more friendly lot in a Computer shop! That's why I always go back to them.

 to the deal, VOTED HOT!!
#36
Sorry forgot.... voted hot

Picked already and awaiting despatch :)

I'm getting more and more tempted to make the purchase, but I would like to know anyone's experience of HP warranties?

Is it collect & return / return to base / onsite?

Collect and Return in my experience. Fast turn around (usually - unless parts have to be ordered in that are not in stock).
#39
Despatched...will be here tomorrow and I did not place my order till after 4PM. Excellent service.
#40
Excellent, has been despatched and they have provided me with an email to confirm. Also have given me a tracking number for Amtrack so i can track my order.
