Pritty poor deal compared to John Lewis at £365 for next model up (2.8Ghz, 2Gb DDR, better DVD etc.).

See this thread. ;-)

The John Lewis Deal is a discontinued hardware clearout, (although still a very good deal), as the Intel Pentium D processor is two generations behind the Core2Duo.

How does a 2.8Ghz dualcore relate to a 1.8Ghz Core2Duo in terms of speed etc.?
#4
Despite the clock disparity, the more efficient C2D should still win.

This article from Anandtech is fairly detailed, and includes both generations of CPUs.

sorry, this is still a poor deal compared to either the john lewis or the cybermaxx deal, to the average user they wouldnt notice the difference in processor speed but would notice the £300 price difference and if you were into gaming you wouldnt purchase any of the 3 systems

That's great and all, but my post you quoted has nothing to do with your subsequent comment! :p

Was providing info for a fellow poster, not comparing deals.

Besides didn't I say "..still a very good deal" earlier?

Interesting article Nook. Looks like the 1.8Ghz Core2 is about 30% faster than the 2.8Ghz dual core. Learn something new every day! Given I am currently running a 1.7Ghz P4 with SDRAM and ATA/133 discs I think I'd be happy with the slower (read cheaper) system. Thx. for the link.
